Green Apple Day of Service

Thank you to those of you who have signed up to volunteer in this effort to spruce up our gardens and nature trail! Please send your child to school Friday with tennis shoes appropriate to participate in weeding and mulching in our secret garden for little bit on Friday. Many hands make light work and we will enjoy a special treat after making our garden just a little bit nicer!

What's new in 4th grade

Here are some dates to post.

September 25- Interim reports come home

September 25- Green Apple Day of Service

September 30- Field trip to Saluda Shoals- dress accordingly

Oct. 6- Fall picture day

We have wrapped up our animal unit in science and have begun studying the First Americans, the Native Americans. We have broken into groups and each group is reading and gathering information about a specific Native American group. We have examined artifacts that Native Americans appreciated and used from nature such as gourds, beads to use for trade, a turtle shell, and an authentic drum.

As writers, we are looking what writers do before they begin to write and that is to plan. We began today working through how to plan and organize our ideas before moving to a rough draft. We had a ball brainstorming and categorizing our ideas!

As readers we just finished Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing and will miss following the story of Peter and his little brother. Many students have expressed an interest in reading more books in the series to follow Peter and Fudge's adventures , so we will begin new book clubs next week!

In math, we are continuing to review place value and rounding in addition to adding and subtracting with regrouping.

Next week we will be working on a new vocabulary list! Check out for games to play with the word list.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Look for dates, times and information regarding parent teacher conferences. I will send out an electronic sign up next week so that you can plug in a time to meet that works best for you! I'm looking at scheduling conferences Oct. 7-9 after school and Oct. 12 throughout the day all day. I'm looking forward to meeting each of you and sharing the learning that your child is experiencing!
