Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Students,
Congratulations to the Class of 2023!
We look forward to welcoming all our parents and guests to our graduation ceremonies on Wednesday, May 31. If your child is graduating at 3:30 PM, I am requesting that you leave the stadium and the school as soon as the ceremony is over to make available precious parking spaces to the 5:30 PM guests and graduates, and therefore ensure that the next ceremony will start and end on time. To ensure a positive experience for all, please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for the 2023 Graduation below.
Final Exams start Tuesday, May 30. Students will be on Finals Schedule until Thursday and Friday will be a Minimum Day. I am requesting that you not take your children out with off campus requests and allow them to focus on Academics so they can finish strong. Semester II grades will be through Infinite Campus starting Friday, June 2 at 5:00 PM.
CELEBRATIONS (aside from graduation):
- Our Softball Team are Three-Peat Champions and have made history! The team has won CIF championships three years in a row in three different divisions: Division II (2021), Open Division (2022), and Division I (2023). It was an exciting (to say the least) championship game last Friday, with our Softball team defeating Mater Dei, 4-3. What an awesome accomplishment!
- The Spring Metro Awards Ceremony was Thursday at Eastlake High School. Please see some representative pictures and names of those awarded below. Otay Ranch were league champs in Girls Track, Boys Track, and Softball, and Co-Champs in Boys Volleyball. Zoe Rachow was named the Metro Conference 2023 Scholar-Athlete of the Year while Keliah Tucker and Kaleb Bowler were named 2023 Spring Athlete of the Year. Players of the Year in the different sports received medallions and First and Second Team selections for the League were awarded certificates. I apologize for any mistakes or if I miss anyone in the recognitions below. Otay Ranch was very well-represented!
- Congratulations to our students who placed in the top 25 of the CIF state prelims. Though none qualified for the CIF State Finals, our student-athletes represented us well. Thank you for a great and memorable Track Season that started with Metro Championships for both Girls and Boys Track, followed by an outstanding performance in CIF playoffs.
- The Class of 2023 watched the sun set on Tuesday, May 23 at the stadium. It was a very memorable and touching occasion. A beautiful fireworks show ended the night.
- Senior Awards Night was Wednesday. The Class of 2023 were awarded two million ($2M) dollars in scholarships and grants. Congratulations!
- Senior athletes who committed to colleges and universities and their parents/guardians were treated to lunch by AD Judd Rachow last Thursday. Congratulations!
- It’s the time of year when seniors receive sashes for their memberships to school-based clubs or for academic achievements. This week alone the following organizations/programs distributed their sashes: California Scholarship Federation (CSF), Administration of Criminal Justice (AOCJ), San Diego State University (SDSU) admits, Bayanihan/Pangkat Sayaw/Filipino classes, Band/Orchestra/Choir (ORH Music), and Career & Technical Education (CTE).
REMINDERS:
- For those who registered, summer school starts on Monday, June 5. The principal of summer school will be Mr. Manuel Tapia.
- I will be offering an APEX credit recovery class for the students who need to complete credit that is not offered through summer school. Counselors have identified the students and will be inviting them. Space is limited.
Thank you for your support throughout the year. Looking forward to the 2023-2024 school year, I am committed to implementing our academic and equity plan, and engaging in the meaningful work that will create a culture of achievement and belonging for every student and staff at Otay Ranch High School. I look forward to your continuing strong support and to our future collaboration.
Have a great summer!
Yours truly,
Mary Rose Peralta
