Fort Sumter
The Battle of Fort Sumter took place at the Charleston Harbour in South Carolina. This battle was the first battle of the Civil War. It started on April 12, 1861 and ended on April 14, 1861. The Confederates fired the first shots on the Union and this was the beginning of war. The Confederate General was P.G.T. Beauregard and the Union General was Robert Anderson. There were a total of 85 Union Soldiers and a total of 500 Confederate Soldiers. There were no casualties in this battle.

Antietam
The Battle of Antietam took place in Sharpsburg, Maryland. It started on September 17, 1862 and ended on September 18, 1862. This battle was claimed to be the bloodiest day in American military history. The battle ended in a draw but then Lincoln was given the victory by the Confederate retreat. There were 87,000 Union Soldiers and 45,000 Confederate Soldiers. The total of Union Army casualties was 12,401 and the total of Confederate Army casualties was 10,316.

Vicksburg
The Battle of Vicksburg took place in Warren County, Mississippi. It took place in May and June of 1863. The Confederacy split in half and it very effective in war. Ulysses S Grant moved his forces rapidly inland. There were 77,000 Union Soldiers. The amount of Confederate Soldiers was about the Union Soldiers divided by 2. There were also 37,402 total casualties.

Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg took place in Adams County, Pennsylvania. It started on July 1, 1863. This very important battle ended on July 3, 1863. The Confederate had the victory. There were 93,921 Union Soldiers and there were 71,699 Confederate Soldiers. The total number of casualties in the Union Army was 23,049. The total number of casualties in the Confederate Army was 28,063.

Sherman’s March to the Sea
Sherman’s March to the Sea was in Bryan County, Georgia. It started on December 13, 1864. It ended on December 21, 1864. The Union won this battle. Gen. William B. Hazen had his men lined up to be ready for battle. There were 4,000 Union soldiers and 120 Confederate Soldiers. There were 134 total Union Army casualties. There were also 71 total Confederate Army casualties.

Fort Fisher
The Battle of Fort Fisher was in New Hanover County, North Carolina. It started on January 13, 1865. It ended on January 15, 1865. The Union won this battle. There were 9,632 Union soldiers and 1,900 Confederate Soldiers. There were 1,341 total Union Army casualties. There were also 583 total Confederate Army casualties.

The Battle of Appomattox Court House took place in Appomattox County, Virginia. It started on April 9, 1865. The battle was another victory by the Union.
