A Word From Mrs. Loor
We dove right back into learning this past week. Ms. Albanese's class has been learning about what schools were like in the past versus the present. They had the opportunity to interview our former librarian, Ms. Stochaj, and ask her about all the changes she has seen in during her many years at Franklin. We enjoyed the beautiful weather out at recess. We are continuing to work on being a good sport, playing fairly, being inclusive and kind, and practicing our social and communication skills.
We have many exciting events coming up this week. Enrichment will begin tomorrow for all those who signed up. Please make sure your children know what classes they are signed up for and when they will take place. Fifth graders will be visiting the middle school on Wednesday. We will be treated to a fun assembly by the Number Drummer. We will also be celebrating Earth Day with grade level specific lessons. And of course, our annual Franklin Fair will take place on Friday, April 21st. I am looking forward to seeing you all there!
Have a wonderful week!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor
Counselor's Corner
Clean out your closets and recycle your used toys. Please see flyer below for items we are collecting for Second Chance Toys starting tomorrow April 10 through April 21. There is a collection bin in the front entrance lobby.
Kindness Crew worked on creating posters reminding us to bring in our used toys.
For any questions regarding our counseling program, please contact Ms. Audino, our school counselor. Her email is laudino@summit.k12.nj.us.
Note regarding Smart Watches
A gentle reminder that although many of our students have smart watches (lucky kids), they should not be using them to call/text home or other people during the school day. This is not allowed for several reasons – but mostly because we are responsible for students during the school day and we need to know if someone is in need of help.
Please know that if your child needs to call home, he/she can use the classroom phone, nurse’s phone or main office phone. Likewise, if you need to get in touch with your child, you can call the school and we will relay any message you need to get to him/her.
Here are a couple of solutions to this concern:
- Students can leave their smart watches at home
- Students can wear their smart watches but parents can use the school-time setting on the device
- Students can wear their smart watches but keep it turned off during school hours
- Students can keep their smart watches in their backpacks during the school day and put it back on at the end of the day
Please discuss the following solutions with your children and let them know they may not use their watches during the school day. Also, please be aware that the teachers may use their discretion to ask students to put their smart watches away into their backpacks. Any personal items brought to school is at the risk of the owner and the school will not be held liable for lost or damage to said items.
Thank you for your help!
