August - Special links edition
Welcome to the 21-22 School Year!
Welcome to the 21-22 school year! Our staff is thrilled to be back, and we have several new staff members who have joined the WSR family.Welcome back to those who are returning families, and welcome to WSR for those who have just joined us this year! We're looking forward to a great year, and are celebrating W.S. Ryan's 20 year anniversary. Since we've had so many new families join us over the past week, we wanted to provide an updated list of helpful links. Be sure to check our website at www.dentonisd.org/wsryanes for important campus info throughout the year, as well as our WS Ryan Elementary facebook page, and our twitter page @WSRyan_DISD .
While we are focusing on getting our students back into a fun routine of academic learning, we are also emphasizing Social Emotional Learning. One of the ways we do this is through our morning meetings. Each class has a daily morning meeting to start their day with smiles and build a positive culture. The meetings could be a combination of teacher-led and student-led, addressing topics such as team-building or social skills (how to greet someone, how to give/accept a compliment, friendship skills), or could be a "would you rather" conversation to start the day with some laughter. We also want to stress to students (and adults!) that a little bit of kindness goes a long way.
Our teachers are in the process of planning curriculum nights next month (details coming soon). Each grade level will have a curriculum night to discuss an overview of the students' learning for the year. While these will be in-person events, each grade level will post google slides with info for those who are not comfortable attending in-person large group events yet. We will also stagger grade level times and dates to help minimize large crowds. For your protection and the protection of others, wearing masks in the building is strongly recommended.
Thank you to those who have offered kind words to our staff as we navigate a new year, with new rules and new protocols. Thank you to those who have donated extra supplies to classrooms. We want to give a huge shout-out to our PTA for providing meals and treats to our staff over the past few weeks. The support we feel from our parent community is enormous, and we can't express enough how appreciative we are for that.
So cheers to 20 years! Let's have a wonderful year together!

Arrival and Dismissal
Please see the link for our arrival and dismissal procedures below. The first few weeks of school usually see longer lines in the morning and afternoon. Rainy days (and the occasional snowy days) usually see longer lines as well. All traffic should enter campus for arrival and dismissal (including parking) from Creekdale. The only vehicles that should enter the driveway by the recess field are buses (there are two signs noting this), and our front driveway is a one-way street (there is a sign noting this).
If you did not select bus transportation for your child at registration and would like to request this service, please call our office at 940-369-4600 and the registrar can put the request in for you.
