Tiger Tales from Sanborn School
October 26, 2022
Dear Sanborn Families,
Sanborn has been an exciting school full of learning over the last month. Students have been actively engaged in all academic areas, and have experienced some special opportunities this month. We've had two author visits: Raul the Third and Alma Alonzo. Raul the Third shared his book called, Team Up, with our students while they sketched together. Alma Alonzo shared her book, Elsa's Magical Bubble, with our students in support of Hispanic Heritage Month. The PTA hosted some wonderful events: the Dance-a-thon, Walk to School Day, and Movie Night. The Book Fair is up and running in the library, and we are looking forward to the Halloween and Fall celebrations next week.
We had two classrooms receive the September Golden Paw Awards: Mrs. Goode's AM Kindergarten class, and Mrs. Hofmann's 6th grade class. They were treated to an extra recess (on the big playground for Kindergarten!) this month. Classrooms can receive a Golden Paw Award when the entire class is following the Tiger Traits: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. At the end of the month, a class from the primary rooms and a class from our intermediate rooms are selected to earn a special reward. I'm excited to see who the lucky October winners will be!
Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up quickly in November (Monday, November 21 from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, November 22 from 7:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.). We value the partnership between school and home, and conferences are an important step towards building that connection with our families. If you haven't signed up for a conference yet, please reach out to your child's teacher to get a conference scheduled.
We look forward to the weeks ahead and please reach out to me with any questions you may have.
Warmly,
Kate Arenberg, Principal

Halloween Celebration Information
This year, we will be holding our Halloween parade and classroom celebrations on Monday, October 31. Students will be celebrating with a parade and classroom activity after the parade. We are allowing two parent volunteers to support the classroom celebration. You should have received communication from your child’s teacher about how to volunteer for the celebration. All volunteers must check in with the main office. Volunteers will need to bring an ID to be scanned into the visitor management system before entry into the classroom. Here is the schedule:
AM Kindergarten Parade: 9:45 a.m., celebration to follow
ECDEC, PM Kindergarten- 6th Grade Parade: 1:45 p.m., celebration to follow
Students will begin the parade indoors and collect all of the students in line. Next, we will exit out Door 1 and walk towards Wood Street. We will travel west for one block (past Cutting Hall) and turn south on Benton Street. We will turn east on Slade Street to make our way back to Sanborn School. We will re-enter Sanborn School through Door 1. Families are welcome to watch the parade outside as we walk in front of Sanborn School or along the parade route. The outdoor parade is weather permitting. If we are unable to walk outside due to the weather, we will let families know the morning of Halloween.
The Book Fair will be open for parents to purchase books from 9:00 a.m.-11:15 a.m., on Halloween. Anyone interested in purchasing books must bring an ID to the main office to be scanned into the visitor management system before entry into the library. If you are able to volunteer any time to support the book fair (October 24-31), please use this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0D4CAAAC2CA7FE3-gmsfall or contact Mrs. Katy Madsen at madsenk@ccsd15.net.
Students are welcome to wear costumes for the parade and parties as long as they follow the District 15 Halloween costume guidelines. Specifically:
Children should not wear bloody, gruesome, or especially scary costumes. Costumes involving fake blood are not allowed.
Actual weapons, look-alike weapons, toy weapons or weapon-like objects are not allowed.
Masks that cover the face and head are not allowed.
Costume make-up is allowed provided it does not cover the student’s entire face. Staff members must be able to identify students.
Costumes that could be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype about someone’s culture, gender, heritage or religion are not allowed.
We are aware that some families do not celebrate Halloween or Fall Festivities. If you wish for your child to not participate in the parade or classroom celebration, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
We are looking forward to a fun filled day with our Sanborn Tigers. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or the Sanborn main office with any questions.
ECDEC, PM Kindergarten- 6th Grade Parade: 1:45 pm, celebración a continuación
From the PTA
Thank you to everyone for your support over the last month! The Movie Night, held on October 14, was a success and a fun night. Mrs. Garcia's class has earned an extra PE class with Mr. Merle! Way to Go!
The Sanborn PTA earned an award related to PTA membership! We have retained and grown our overall PTA membership this last school year. Please consider joining the PTA if you haven't yet!

Greetings Parents and Students of Gray M. Sanborn School!
In preparation for our upcoming 4th Grade Veteran’s Day music program on Thursday, November 10, we are collecting photographs of American veterans in the families of our Gray M. Sanborn School community. If you have a photo of a family member who did serve or is currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, please send the photo along with the following information:
Name of your child
Name of the family member and relationship to you
Branch of the military served
Also, if known:
Years served
Rank
Location of service
Please include whatever information you are able and please send a photo of the United States Veteran in uniform. You may also send a photo of anyone in your family who has served and protected our community in the police department, fire department or emergency response teams in honor of their protection over our community. All photographs should be sent by October 30.
You may send the photo through email to: datcherk@ccsd15.net
Photographs sent to school will be returned immediately. An option would also be to take a picture of the picture you wish to send with your phone and email the photo to datcherk@ccsd15.net rather than send a photo to school.
We are all very much looking forward to this upcoming event and appreciate your sharing a photograph if you are able to do so.
Please note, if you shared a photograph last Veterans’ Day or in previous years, thank you! We still have it as part of the presentation so there is no need to send the photograph again. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at datcherk@ccsd15.net.
Many, many thanks to you! Mrs. Datcher (847) 963-7000
