School Counseling September Newsletter

Students in September studied Second Step skills for learning by focusing attention, listening, using self-talk to stay focused while practicing assertiveness to help us be a learner. These show character traits of respect, responsibility, and kindness through listening. To learn more about Second Step, please check out our parent newsletter to learn how to create a Second Step Family Account.

Blessings in a Backpack Coming Home Today

Blessings in a Backpack is a donation run organization that sends meals home with families across Waukesha every week. This year, the program is expanding to ALL elementary students and ALL families are invited to participate.

TODAY, your child will come home with a package of food. These packages are delivered at no charge to all families. If you would like to continue to get these food items each week, they will just continue to show up in your child's backpack each Friday. If your family would like to opt out of these food deliveries, there is a form for you to complete and return AFTER this week's deliveries. You may also fill out THIS electronic form. Please read through the information sheet attached to the food packet for more information.

Calling all Vendors & Crafters: PTO Craft & Vendor Fair

Hillcrest PTO is hosting its annual Craft & Vendor Fair in November! We are actively seeking crafters or vendors for the event. Do you have direct sales home business or are you a crafter? Family members of Hillcrest receive a $25 discounted rate to participate in the craft and vendor fair. This event has been quite successful for crafter and vendors in prior years. Vendor/Craft agreements are due by 10/21. Contact Kim Smith, kappie26@yahoo.com, for more information.

Vendor agreements can be found here.

PTO Upcoming Events

Culver’s Night Fundraiser, Sept 21 5:00 - 8:00 PM

PTO Meeting, Sep 22 6:15 - 7:15 PM

PTO Skateland Fundraiser, Sept 23 5:30 - 8:00 PM

PTO Meetings are monthly, held in the library (or you can join at sdw.webex.com/meet/nzeroth). Events are discussed, Mrs. Lincicum provides a school update and classroom funding is reviewed. Staff members attend as well so a great way to meet not only other families but staff too! A full budget review will be done at the September meeting.

PTO Fundraisers: PTO budgets to provide $18,000 annually to support our school community. Support includes annual classroom allotments to teachers and support staff (for new apps, for additional classroom activities, for learning activities, etc.), larger items for the school (looking at air purifiers this year, last year was library furniture), free family activities (like the open house fun) and so much more. In order to support this budget, PTO runs fundraising events throughout the year.

This months fundraising event is also a family night, Skateland on 23rd. Information on events and fundraisers are provided in this monthly newsletter, as soon above!
