Preparing & Conducting Interviews
Make a Difference
Tip #1: Call your Interviewee
Call your interviewee to ask for the interview. If the interviewee says yes continue, if the interviewee says no find another interviewee, then proceed
Tip #2: Research!
Make sure you know everything about your subject! The more you know the better your interview will be.
Tip #3: Take good Notes!
Take good notes from your research! You will use these notes later for writing your questions and your article.
Tip #4: Prepare Questions from your Notes and Research!
Look over your notes and research and prepare some questions for your interviewee. You should have at least fifteen questions for them. Make sure they are interesting to the interviewee and not yes or no questions.
Tip #5: Be Prepared for the Interview!
Make sure you have a pencil, a notebook, and your list of questions ( And a recording device if the interviewee allows it). Be on time and dress neatly and make sure you have good hygiene!
Tip #6: Use your Time wisely!
Make sure the interviewee is not on a time limit. If they have a time limit, then get right to the questions. If they have more time try to warm up to them and make connections with each other so the questions will be easier for the interviewee to answer.
Tip #7: Take Notes!
Always take your own notes. You might find something interesting during the interview that you didn't notice while listening to the recording. Your notes will also help make writing your article a lot easier.
Tip #8: Thank the Interviewee!
Thank the interviewee for letting you interview them. Make sure to tell them you appreciate the time they spent with you and show your gratitude.
Tip #9: Write your Article
Now, use all your research, notes, and questions and start your article! Make sure you include everything you think is important.
