Oc. 26-30 Halloween Storytime and activities
Nov. 2-6 Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead, a Mexican Holiday). Nov. 1 is the actual date for Dia de Muertos.
Students are using our Makerspace daily in small groups when they visit the library. The Makerspace is currently not in use from 11:15-11:45 or during KG time(11:55-12:45). If you would like to send small groups(5 or less) of students to the Makerspace as a reward during either of those times, please let me know.
As always, if there is something I can do to support what's going on in your classroom through read alouds/storytime/library skills lessons, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm happy to help you.
KY Bluegrass Awards As I mentioned above, we are participating in the KY Bluegrass Awards again this year. This is a wonderful way to introduce students to some great children's literature. My favorite thing about the awards is that KY children are in control and choose the winning book. We will vote in the Spring. Last year's K-2 pick, Trouper by Meg Kearney is a wonderful rescue story that dog lovers will want to read. | Staff Pumpkin Contest While the students are submitting their pumpkins for the gallery, we will be running a contest for favorite staff pumpkins. You can decorate a pumpkin to represent a book or book character. Students who visit the library & computer lab on Oct. 29 & 30 will vote for their favorite. The winning staff member will win a 10.00 gift certificate for our book fair(Nov 16-20) and, of course, bragging rights! Here's a link to some examples from the last time we had the Pupmpkin Art Gallery. | Chatterpix Kids This app has been around a while, but I only recently discovered it and wanted to share it with those of you who may not know about it. Chatterpix Kids allows you to snap a photo or use your photo gallery to grab a photo. Draw a line where the mouth on your image would be and you can make that photo "talk". It allows for about 30 seconds. I can see this as a fun way for students to share facts they've learned on a variety of topics...historical figures, animal research, and even book quick book talks and reviews! The app is free! Here's a Pinterest board with ideas for using Chatterpix in the classroom. |

Introduce your students to a forgeign language with Lyric Language from KET on Demand. This series combines original music and bilingual lyrics with live-action video adventure to introduce children to foreign language vocabulary. Falcon News I am so excited that we were able to bring back Falcon News this year! We have assembled a great group of students and look forward to working with them throughout the year! If you have announcements or items that you'd like to see featured on the news, please let me or Mrs. Gordon know. Please remember we tape one day in advance. | Scholastic Book Fair Scheduled! Our Fall book fair will be November 16-20. Your classes will visit during scheduled library times. I will send out more information as the date gets closer! | Photos Needed!! I'd like reboot our library Twitter page with photos of students and staff members with a favorite book. Please remember to bring a favorite children's book with you when you come to the library next week. If you forget, we have plenty in the library! I'll snap a quick photo of you peeking from behind your book. I will be using these for a future bulletin board as well! If you're uncomfortable with me taking your photo, please take your own and send it to me. |
