Green Apple Day of Service
We worked in the Butterfly Garden beside our playground.
Conversation Starters
As a way to foster conversations with your child about what we are learning, please ask him/her the following:
How do maps help people?
How do illustrations help the reader?
Reading in Action
Read a story to your child. Ask the child to describe how the illustrations help you know where the characters are located on several pages in the book. (For example, if a character is at a park, then there should be grass, trees, maybe a playground, etc.).
Word Wall Words
Your child has a Word Wall Word envelope in his folder. Please read the note on the outside of this envelope and help your child with these words.
Writers Workshop
As writers we can focus on the details in our illustration to help the reader determine the setting of the story.
Keion and McKenna showing off their illustrations.
Jaleigha, Makayla and MaKenzie are working hard.
Isabelle, Jaleigha and Macayla made sure to include a "background" in their illustration to help the reader know where the story was taking place.
Reading Workshop
As readers, we can use picture clues to help us identify unknown words. We can re-read pages/books to learn more information. .
Math Workshop
As mathematicians, we can use ten frames to show the numbers 0-10.
Alynn and Savanna working on counting.
Raelyn and Selene doing math games on the computers.
Landen is identifying numbers and counting links to match the corresponding number.
Social Studies
As social scientists, we can share information learned from reading maps.
Shared Reading
As readers, we can track print and use the pictures to help us read unknown words.
