How is your summer going?
Some of you I see every day, some I have not seen in weeks.
I hope you are having a great summer and enjoying the change of pace and important time with family and friends.
It has been a typically busy summer at Holy Cross. Summer School just concluded yesterday. Lots of thanks to Eden, Miquel, Adria and Jhody for doing a great job and thank you to Latonya, Yovanna and Dana for your help as well. I feel that it was a positive and productive experience for our students.
Summer camp ends next Friday. The show "Moana" is next Thursday night. Everyone is invited to attend. Our summer camp staff has been working very hard as well. It's been a LONG 6 weeks but we've almost made it to the finish line.
The following information applies to full-time teachers only. 12 month employees and hourly employees may disregard.
There has been some confusion/speculation about when you will receive your first paycheck for the 2019-20 school year. I will provide a brief explanation but Roslyn will provide more detailed information at a later time.
Each year, the calendar moves up a bit and this affects our pay periods if you are a 10 month employee. Due to this, the first pay period was scheduled to be next Thursday, July 25th. I am sure you all will agree that it is not in the best interest of the school to begin paying teachers more than 2 weeks before you have to report to work. In reality, it is conceivable for someone to get paid and then for some reason to not report to work. I am sure that that will not happen with any our full time teachers, but it is a possibility.
For this reason, the original plan was to adjust the pay periods to have it align more appropriately with the actual school year. This would not change the dollar amount of your total compensation, just when your pay periods begin and end. Making this adjustment would require missing a pay period. However, it does not seem that proper notice and explanation was given, so we will begin the salaries for the 2019-20 school year next Thursday, July 25th.
What does this mean moving forward? Next year, we definitely will not be making the first payroll in July as everyone now is receiving ample notice. For those of you who escrow (most of you), you will receive 1 additional payment from your escrow but each of the 4 payments (instead of 4) will be a bit smaller.
Roslyn will explain this more fully at a later time, but I hope that this explanation is satisfactory at this time and you can take a deep breath about your payroll deposit next week.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and stay safe! More detailed information will follow on the upcoming school year, staffing and grade level changes, etc. I am very excited about the new school year!
