La Chandeleur
This week, French 1 and 2 students celebrated the French national holiday of La Chandeleur on Monday, February 3rd. This holiday centers around the making and eating of crepes. Students read an article and watched two short videos to learn more about this holiday’s unique origins and history as well as some of its superstitious traditions. Thank you to all of our French students and their parents who donated so many delicious crepes and fillings for our classroom celebration!

January 2020
Dear Friend:
Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed the holidays with family and friends.
The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund provides assistance for needs not covered by insurance to families who are caring for seriously ill, disabled or severely injured children in the tri-state area. Although they are often invisible to all but the family, the non-medical side effects of serious childhood illness can be devastating. Financial assistance from KADMF can ease these burdens, allowing the parents or guardians to focus more fully on the needs of the child and improving the quality of life for the entire family.
Tamanend Middle School, located in nearby Warrington, has been supporting this important organization for nineteen years by hosting a Kelly Anne Dolan Day, which includes a 3-on-3 Basketball tournament and other activities for the students and Tamanend families. Five hundred Tamanend students participate in the annual event, and over the last nineteen years the students have raised over $476,000. Last year alone, they raised over $29,000! The 20th Annual Kelly Anne Dolan Basketball Shoot-Out will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, and we hope to surpass last year’s total.
We hope your business considers making a monetary donation or a gift card donation for our gift basket drawings. Your contribution will mean so much to the families who need support from the KADMF this year. While we will gratefully accept any donation, our sponsor levels are as follows:
20th Anniversary Platinum Sponsor - $1000 donation

Company name/logo poster featured in the gym at the Kelly Anne Dolan Day
Company recognition during awards presentation by the KADMF founder at the Kelly Anne Dolan Day

Monetary donations, made out to KADMF, can be mailed directly to me at Tamanend or to KADMF (address is below). Donations can also be made at dolanfund.org, just make a note that your donation is part of Tamanend’s Basketball Shoot-Out. Gift cards can be mailed to Tamanend, or I am happy to stop by and get them. The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization, contributions to which are tax-deductible as permitted by law.
Thank you so much for your time and thoughtful consideration in reviewing this request. Should you have any questions about KADMF or this event, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!

Student Assistance Program (SAP)
Reminder--Help is Down the Hall
The Tamanend Student Assistance Program (SAP) Team is a group of trained faculty members who can connect students with appropriate help and resources if they show signs of struggling with mental health concerns or alcohol/substance use. If you notice concerns such as major changes in behavior or mood, drop in achievement, or use of drugs or alcohol, then you may consider a SAP referral. When the team receives a referral, we gather more information to determine if there is a need for intervention and further assessment. The information is confidential, and the process is for the purpose of offering help. Anyone can refer a student about whom they are concerned. Referrals can be made at this referral link or by contacting a SAP team member:

TEEN TALK
What is Teen Talk? Each week, we will include a resource in our newsletter designed to promote conversations between parents and children regarding important issues related to teenagers. We hope that these resources serve to help parents and students navigate the excitement and challenges associated with the teenage years. In addition, we will highlight topics that we are discussing in Advisory and in presentations so that you may continue the conversation at home with your teen.
This Week's Teen Talk Topic: Mindfulness
Understanding the brain and engaging in mindfulness activities is a great way for teens to learn to manage stress. The Nemours Foundation offers this resource related to mindfulness for teenagers: https://kidshealth.org/en/teens/mindfulness.html.
Advisory topics this month include a menu of mindfulness activities for the 7th Graders. The 8th Graders will be participating in lessons that focus on interpersonal interactions between other Advisory groups. Next week they will discuss wants versus needs and will be creating Blessing Bags. The 9th Graders will be studying African American History and will begin their Project Linus blankets next week.

FROM OUR INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
7th Grade Laptop Update This Weekend
On Friday, 2/7/2020, the Technology and Innovation Department will begin allowing 7th Grade 1:1 laptops to install Windows 10 version 1903. This version update will provide Windows operating system enhancements to Central Bucks Windows 10 devices. This is the most efficient way to keep student machines updated, but this is the first time an update has occurred during the school year. Previously, updates took place over the summer. We wanted to inform you of this update due to the amount of time it takes to apply upon reboot. When applying the update it can take roughly 30 to 40 minutes before the computer is usable and available to be logged into again. The update will install in the background and will force a restart outside of the scheduled school day; which is 5pm to 6am. Please plan accordingly, knowing the computer will take time to apply the update.
7th Grade Students--Please restart your computer over the weekend so this update does not impact instruction.
Parents/Guardians--Please encourage your 7th Grader to restart his/her computer over the weekend.
