Declassified island Survival Guide

How to build shelter

Shelter is very important if you are stranded on a tropical island. One option of shelter you can make is a tee-pee. First to do this you'll need to find around 20 long sticks. The thicker and more durable the stick the better. Next you'll need to take three of those sticks in to the ground. This will create a tripod. Now take the rest of your sticks and place them in a circle around the tripod. But make sure you leave space for an entrance. Now finally cover the sticks with leaves and bush and other sorts of vegetation. If you're in the process of making this and need a temporary shelter a lean-to shelter would be a good temporary shelter. First to make this you're gonna have to get a think durable stick and place it about five feet away from a large tree. Then get another durable stick and place it horizontally along the tree and stick. Now get smaller sticks and place them on the horizontal stick at a 45 degree angle. Now get leaves and other vegetation on those sticks for protection.

How to get fresh water

Water is a very important source for your body. Without it you'd die. So to find water on a island first you want to get a bucket and go on an adventure inland to find a stream or waterfall. The larger the island is the more likely there is a stream or waterfall. But, if there are no rivers or waterfalls you can use that bucket to collect rain water. If you have no buckets then you can use large leaves. Another way you can get fresh water is by creating a water still. To build one of these you need a container and a plastic sheet. First you'll need to dig a hole about three of four feet deep. Then dig a little slot in the center of the hole to place the container in. Place some leaves or other vegetation in the hole around the container. Now place the plastic sheet over the top of the of the hole and anchor it down with rocks and place a rock in the center just above the container. Over time moisture will build up form the heat and leaves and form condensation on the plastic and drip in to the container. This water will be fresh and safe to drink. Also to get fresh you can leave containers out over night. Hopefully overnight it will rain and you will get fresh water.

How to make a fire

Fire is really important to keep you warm if you're stranded on a jungle first you'll have to be able to build a fire. One way you can build a fire is the tee-pee method. First find dry small twigs and some dry vegetation. Get the small twigs and form a tripod with them. Now put the dry leaves and other vegetation underneath the twigs. Another method to build a fire is the cross-ditch method. To do this you will first need to draw a cross in the dirt about 30 centimeters in size. Then dig the the cross about 8 centimeters deep. now place some dry leaves or other vegetation in the center of the cross. Then build a pyramid of sticks above the leaves. Another method to build a fire is the pyramid method. First get two large logs and place them about a foot apart parallel from each other. now place a solid layer of smaller sticks on top. Make sure each layer is smaller and is at a right angle from the layer below it.

How to start a fire

The first and easiest method used for lighting a fire is using a match. All you have to do is light the match and then burn the leaves and wood. Another technique is using glasses or a magnifying glass. To start a fire using this you'll need to line it up perfectly with the sunlight going through the lens on to the leaves or wood. The heat will cause the wood and leaves to catch on fire. Another method you can use is the fire plow method. To do this you'll need a hard stick and a softer wood base. You have to cut a groove in the soft wood and rub the tip of the stick up and own the groove. You'll need to apply more pressure each time to rub the stick. The friction will cause to wood to ignite.

Dangerous animals

If you've been stuck on this tropical island for while and you decide you need to go wash up in the river there's some animals in that river that river that you should be careful about. One animal that you should be careful about is an electric eel. These animals can grow up to 2 meters long. They can generate up to 500 volts of electricity in certain organs. Eels use their electric shock to stun their enemies. You will usually find these creatures in shallow waters. Piranhas are another dangerous animal you should watch out for in the rivers. Piranhas have very visible razor sharp teeth. They can grow to be 50 centimeters long and is the most dangerous animal by the shore. Another dangerous animal to look out for is the king cobra. King cobras are very dangerous and poisonous snakes. They can grow up to be 13-18 feet long and weigh around 20 pounds. The king cobras bite is so powerful and toxic it can kill an elephant.

How to get rescued from a tropical island

The most important thing you can do on an island is try and get rescued. The best method to get rescued from a tropical island is by using a mirror. When you see a helicopter or plane flying over the island you need to get your mirror and point it at the sun and have the light beam pointed at the helicopters or planes window. When you do this you are trying to get the pilots attention so he sees you and then you get rescued. Another method you can use is building a signal fire. A fire is another good method to use to get rescued. To do this first you're gonna have to find the tallest mountain on the island. Once you figure out the tallest spot on the island you're gonna need to build a fire on it. The smoke from the fire will hopefully attract boats or planes passing by and you'll get rescued. The next method is the SOS method. This method is probably the easiest but not as effective. This method will require you have have sand on this island. if there is sand then what you should do is write SOS really big in the sand. Hopefully by doing this people flying above you will see it and hopefully save you. Or if you are skilled enough you should do all of these methods to have a better chance to be rescued.

Good first aids to know

A good first aid you should know when you're stranded on an island is CPR. First you'll need to check for a pulse. Next open the airway of their throat. Then two breaths in to their mouth followed by 30 chest compression's. Then keep repeating until they start responding. Another first aid you should know on an island is knowing how to stop blood flow to wound. To slow blood flow tightly tie a cloth right above the wound, this will slow the flow so the injured person will not bleed out. After the blood flow is stopped next you'll need to care for the wound. First find some disinfectant and pour/rub it in the wound. Then cover the wound with a clean cloth or stitch it up if you know how.

Connections to lord of the flies

In the book "Lord of the Flies" there were a lot of things they did right and wrong. One thing they did right was using piggies glasses to light the fire. Using glasses is a great way to start a fire. Another thing they did right was make a fire on top of a mountain as a signal fire. Signal fires are a great way a boat or plane can see you and rescue you. Getting rescued is the second thing you should be focused on. The first thing you should be focused on is surviving. which is something they did wrong. They out getting rescued before getting food for survival.
