The 6th graders worked on verbs all week and did some practice problems on noredink.com. They seem to love that website and it really helps them learn to identify verbs and use them in the right tense. They are always welcome to do lessons on noredink.com. We ended the week with our verb test. They got to use notes and those grades will be in before Thanksgiving break.
They also have been working hard on their November Book Projects. Those are due November 30th. Make sure they have a good start on it because Thanksgiving break goes by quickly and it will be due shortly after we get back.
This week for spelling, we did a contest. Every week I take points off for spelling errors on the packet. The purpose of the packet is for them to practice the spelling the words correctly three times, which they can all do because the spelling lists are on each page of the packet and they would just have to copy them down. This week anyone who spells all the words correctly on their packets does not have to do spelling the week after Thanksgiving. Let’s see how many students will have to do spelling next week. Hopefully they all took their time and no one will have to do it!
I am going to place a book order before Thanksgiving, so if you want to order any books, please do so before Tuesday the 22nd. You can order online with the code (JQ8XW under Miss Thomas) or bring the orders and money to me by Tuesday.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving break! I know I will!

Math News and Updates
Amanda Lois amanda.lois@yorkville.k12.wi.us
This week in sixth grade Math, we started learning all about Ratios! They did an activity finding Ratios in a bag of M&M’s and then they got to enjoy the sweet treat afterwards! Next we moved into Rates and Unit Rates. We ended the week with a “Fraction Friday” activity day, as students continue to polish up their fraction skills.
On Monday, November 21st, the students reviewed all decimal operations while planning their own Thanksgiving dinner! They created a guest list, calculated how big of a turkey they need and how long to cook it, how much food to buy and the cost. Then they calculated the nutritional value in all of that food!
When they come back after break, we will continue working with Unit Rates to find the better buy while shopping! They will take the Module 6 quiz as well.
It was so nice meeting with most of you at conferences! I hope you have a wonderful holiday with family and friends!

In social studies, students completed their Chapter 2 portfolio. They finished their Prezi and essays and uploaded them to their own website. We ended the week with a geography activity. We will do another geography activity on Monday and begin Chapter 3 - Colonial America on Monday when we get back. This chapter will examine the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. Most of them have already completed the vocabulary for the new chapter. They have it on Quizlet so they can start working on these new words. It was nice meeting with some of you last week during conferences. I hope to see more of you November 21.
I wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the time shopping, decorating for the holidays, or simply spending time with family and friends.
Please contact me via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.

In science we began Chapter 19 - Stars, Galaxies, & the Universe. There are many new terms the students should work on understanding a little everyday. This can be done using the Quizlet program on the computer. Next week we will begin a project based on the Life Cycle of a Star. The majority will be done in class however if extra time is needed students may bring their projects home to work on.Have a great long weekend!
