A Message from the Principal of AOC, Dr. Fine
Week of 8/15
Greetings AOC Families,
I hope that you had a great weekend! This Friday is a Tuesday/Thursday schedule.
For opening week, ASB did an incredible job welcoming students to the campus. Thank you to our ASB students and ASB Director Dr. Shapiro!
Next week, students will take tours of the COC campus in their advisory and freshman seminar classes. Next Friday, August 20th, students will have a special schedule and are invited to participate in a school-wide pizza party. This event hosted is hosted by our Social-Emotional Wellness student leaders. There will be table talks, games, and opportunities to socialize and connect with one another.
We look forward to another great week at AOC! Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dr. Juliet Fine

Crisis Go Begins on August 16th
We will begin scanning student ID cards on Monday, August 16th for Crisis Go.
With the 2021-22 school year, starting on August 16th, all students & all visitors are required to complete the district's "Crisis Go" iPass check-in whenever entering campus. Please show your green iPass clearance when asked by a staff member. If you do not have a cell phone or are unable to do the digital check-in, please stop by the office for a temperature check and be prepared to answer the standard covid questions. If you are feeling unwell, please do not plan to come on campus. Any individual with a temperature of 100.4 or above will be asked to leave immediately. Upon clearing the health screening, you will be required to wear a mask at all times while indoors on campus.

Wellness Center- Meet Mr. Wilhelm
AOC is pleased to introduce Mr. Jason Wilhelm, Wellness Coordinator for our AOC community.
As our Wellness Coordinator, Mr. Wilhelm oversees the Wellness Room and social-emotional learning curriculum for our elective courses. He works collaboratively with other wellness coordinators across the district. Mr. Wilhelm is a founding faculty member of the Academy of the Canyons and has taught different grade levels of English and Advisory classes. In addition to being the Wellness Coordinator, he is our professional development coach and participated in the Opening of the Year Committee with other faculty to plan these incredible first two incredible opening weeks of school with other faculty and students. AOC is very excited to have Mr. Wilhelm lead our school in this very important work with our students.
Mr. Wilhelm and his SEL students are planning two very important events: the pizza party whole school on August 20th and the Rooted Event for Freshman on August 27th. Thank you to our Roots PTA for sponsoring the pizza party and providing parent volunteers for this event.
Families and students, we would like to share our wellness room guidelines with you. Here are the rules that we have shared with AOC.
- When you enter the room, place your ID card in the sleeve by the door. If the clear spaces are full, then you will have to return at another time.
- No outside food or beverage
- Keep the voice levels to a minimum (Especially for people who are sleeping)
- Keep the room clean and organized (Clean up after your mess!)
- Behavior should be mature and respectful
- Do not write rude/mean things on the chalkboard
- Do not be rude to others in the Wellness room
- NO DOING HOMEWORK! This room is meant for relaxation and mindfulness. You are strongly discouraged from doing schoolwork in the Wellness Room and instead are encouraged to use the computer lab, COC's Zoom Zone, or other campus facilities.
Thank you to the generosity of the Patrus family for donating to our school to create the Wellness Room. It is a beloved space for our students. If you have any questions about our social emotional learning program or wellness room, you can contact Mr. Wilhelm at jwilhelm@hartdistrict.org
If you are interested in donating to the Wellness Room, please reach out to Mrs. Herrera. Parent generosity helps fund programming and purchases for this space.
