Homecoming Week

This week has been homecoming week in the School District of South Milwaukee. Homecoming is a time to celebrate who we are and who we want to be as a community.

Who do we want to be at Lakeview?

We want to be a community of learners, and that means more than just students as learners. It means that everyone involved with Lakeview is a learner. The teachers, paraprofessional aides, secretaries, food service, custodians, and the principal are learners. The parents, guardians, grandparents, and babysitters are learners. Everyone learns so that we serve as models for our children and shape the future.

I know many there are many current Lakeview parents and grandparents that attended Lakeview. We wish all of you a happy homecoming and hope that you will carry on the great tradition of high expectations that makes Lakeview a great place to call "home"!

Homecoming Parade

Thank you to our approximately 40 students who marched in the homecoming parade on Thursday evening. Our students were excited to represent Lakeview, and I am sure they will remember this for a long time. Thank you to the PTO, Ms. Genduso and Ms. Drake-Hames for organizing the float, and Ms. Wilke for organizing our student council participants. Some photos are below:

MAP Testing

MAP Testing has largely finished at this point and we will be sharing the results of the MAP assessment with you in an upcoming Tuesday folder as well as at conferences on October 9th and 10th. The MAP test allows us to track student progress over time in the areas of growth and achievement. When the information and scores come home, please take time to read over the materials. The MAP assessment is aligned to the Wisconsin Forward standard exam that is administered to grades 3-5 each Spring, as well as to the ACT and SAT. And, even though tests like the ACT are a long way off for our students, it is important to start having conversations now. We want every student to grow and achieve, and this is one type of conversation about one piece of data that can help ensure that.

We need YOU!

The PTO needs help for two upcoming events. You may not be able to volunteer your time, but you might be able to donate a case of bottled water. Every type of help is valued! The links below will take you to Sign-up Genius pages where you can help.

#1 - Grandparent's Day - click here for the list of items we need. Grandparent's day is October 18th, but donations would need to be dropped off by October 17th.

#2 - Book Fair (Oct 9 & 10) - click here to volunteer for a shift

PTO Directory

This year, the PTO is putting together a family directory. Families that volunteer their information would get a copy of the directory. These types of directories are great for playdates, birthday parties, etc. It's another way to help build the community feel of Lakeview. You might say, "Doesn't the school already have my information?" Yes, but the school cannot share information like that to ensure privacy. A family directory, assembled by the PTO, is a way to provide that information to others in a voluntary way. Please click here to submit your information.
