Importance of mulitplying and dividing decimals
Some people think that learning to multiply and divide decimals is a a waste of time and is useless and could never apply to real life, but there actually many ways that you could use multiplying decimals in your daily life.An example of multiplying decimals is for a menu if you want to buy 2 of the same appetizers that cost $6.34 and you want to how much it costs it would have to multiply decimals. You would divide decimals during shopping you find a shirt that cost $17.67 for half off and you want to know how much it cost.
Multiplying Decimals
Steps to Muliply Decimals
1.Line up the numbers if possible DO NOT line up the decimals.
2.Then starting on the right multiply each bottom number with each of the the numbers on the top.
3.Add the of the numbers you just mutliplied.
4.Then to put the decimal point for the sum of the products start from the right then move the decimal the number of numbers you have past the deicmal on the numbers you multiplied.

Remember
Here is a common mistake to avoid when multipltying decimals when the decimals in the numbers are lined up.
Dividing Decimals
Steps to divide decimals
1.If the divisor( the number you divide by) is not a whole number you have to move decimal point to right to make it a whole number and then you need to move decimal point in dividend (the number that the divisor divides by) the same number of places.
2.Divide the problem like you do without decimals unitl the problem stops or constantly repeats.
3.Put the decimal point in your answer directly above decimal point in the dividend of the problem.
4.Then you can check your work by multiplying the divisor by your quotient(your answer).
