Principal's Corner
Dear Steeby Families,
We are rounding out the end of our 2020-2021 school year. This year has come with many challenges for everyone, but our ultimate goal at Steeby Elementary has always been to give your child the best education possible. As always we thank you for allowing us to be part of your child’s education each and every day.
The month of May is also the month for assessments. Our 3rd graders have started the state M-STEP testing. They will take the English/Language Arts and the Math assessments. Starting next week, our 2nd graders and 3rd graders will take the NWEA reading and math assessments. Please remind your child the importance of a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast each morning, so they are ready to perform their best on these assessments.
This summer we are thrilled to offer Kids Read Now Reading Program to all of our students. Your child has selected eight books with the help of their teacher. Starting in May, you should start to receive these books in the mail. These books are your child’s books to keep and enjoy. They will also be offering Family Reading Events.
Please remember to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Yours in Education,
Christina Johnson
Steeby Elementary Principal
Physical Education Matters
We are in super speed mode in physical education for the rest of the year. We still have a lot of sports/games to get to and we are running out of time fast. We will be playing games as warm-ups and playing football, and if time baseball. The last couple PE classes we will be celebrating our own field day with each class during their PE time.
We just finished our half mile run (also done class by class during PE time) and the results of the top 10 boys and girls for 2nd and 3rd grade will get a medal!
Our top times this year:
2nd grade: Makalynn Cross-3:37.6, Nolan Kopenski-3:55.7
3rd grade: Teagan Wienczkowski-3:39.4, Deegan Moore-3:36.2
Top 10's will be posted in the hallway for students to view.

Second graders have been having so much fun creating an underground ant colony. They have drawn homes and tunnels for their ants then the creativity has gone wild creating fun rooms for their ants. Everything from video game rooms, swimming pools, kitchens, dance floors, gyms, and so much more! Each ant colony is different and oh so unique!

A Note About Music
Greetings from Music! The month of April was short and filled with lots of fun in music. The students learned and played singing games, moved to folk dances and reviewed concepts through music. They have also been listening to books about musicians or using literature to music with xylophones and glockenspiels. They also got to play BUSTED! - a fun music note identification game.

Media Moments
Happy May! We have been busy in media class. In April, we read fun poetry books and went to the website poetry4kids.com. The next few weeks we are going to be in the library. We are doing fun coding apps like Brite Box and Light Bot. Coding is great for problem solving and multiple step problems. Happy Coding!

Thank you to all who supported our Walk-A-Thon this year.
Parent Drop Off/Pick Up
We have also recently seen an increase in parents who park their cars during pick up and wave their student over to them. This is not a safe practice as we having moving traffic throughout the parking lot. If you decide to park your vehicle, please walk up to the building and retrieve your child ensuring safety for all involved.
Please realize that as the weather continues to get warmer we have many more children walking/biking to and from school. Please drive safely and keep an alert eye out for the children.
