Message from the Principal

Academy of the Canyons News for the Week of 12/6

Dear AOC Families,

It is an honor to be the new principal of AOC. And, communication is an important aspect of my job. "The Acorn" will be a weekly message from the principal of Academy of the Canyons (AOC).

This weekly message will be in addition to our Weekly Bulletin. If you haven't checked this out, you will find it full of great information for our students and parents. It is located under the "Parent" link on the main page.

In the next few weeks, you will see our social media pages updated to help you stay informed about upcoming events and important details related to the school. Right now, you can follow us on Twitter @Academy_Canyons.

Have a great week, AOC!

AOC Gives Back to the Community-Project Linus

Dear AOC Families,

Our students in Project Linus (a non-profit group that provides blankets to children in need) expressed an interest in wanting to learn how to sew and we only have a few sewing machines to share. I am trying to provide all students the access they desire and put as many machines in their homes (to borrow then return to school) for the spring as possible.

In Project Linus, we have have donated blankets that went to comfort children during the fall fires as well as students who were affected by the Saugus tragedy.

In order to get help, I have set up a Donors Choose campaign and an Amazon wish list. For people who want to have a tax deductible donation, they can donate to Donors Choose, and for someone who wants to buy a machine and send it directly, they can order through AMAZON. Donors should email me directly at or have contact info attached to their purchase so I can send them the necessary tax write off information.

Thank you for your time in helping us and the students receive the projects they so desire to create.

Click here for Donors Choose Link and click here for the Amazon link.

Academy of the Canyons

Located on the campus of College of the Canyons, AOC is proud to be the middle college high school in the William S. Hart Union High School District serving students 9th-12th grades in the Santa Clarita Valley. Students have the opportunity to earn between 24 and 44 transferable college units, prior to receiving their high school diplomas. Upon graduation, the majority of Academy students pursue their post high school education by continuing at COC and completing their college transfer requirements in only one year after high school. Other AOC students go directly into a four-year university, bringing their community college units with them and placing themselves well into their freshman and sophomore years at the college level. While attending AOC as a high school student, community college tuition is waived for established California residents.
