Parent-Teacher Conferences

Make sure to sign up for parent-teacher conferences! This Thursday, 10/7, you and your student are encouraged to participate in conferences with your student's teachers. You may choose to attend conferences in person or virtually. Sign up for conferences through Pick-a-time before the window closes on 10/5.

As you schedule your conferences, you are encouraged to print or email your schedule through the “Printable Schedule” page. This page contains the times and teachers for your conferences. If you sign up for virtual conferences, you will receive access to the links for each of your virtual conferences before 10/7.

We look forward to your participation as we continue to partner with you to support your student’s education.

Career Exploration

Make sure your student joins at least one session in week 2 of our Speaker Series, offering Compass Academy students the opportunity to engage in conversations with community members from a variety of careers. This week, there will be two different speakers. Students may choose one or both to attend. Please use this LINK to sign up. Students must sign up to receive the Zoom link.

Wednesday (10/6), 9:15-10:00 am:
  • Writer & Content Strategist - Elizabeth Rago
Wednesday (10/6), 2:00-2:45 pm:
  • Board Certified Behavioral Analyst - Caylee Irving

These opportunities not only enable students to hear about different careers, but they also help students attain competencies in Career Exploration, earning credit toward graduation while completing the first step in obtaining a College & Career Pathway Endorsement on their diploma.

Lunch Order

If your student hasn't ordered lunch yet for this week, please have them complete their order before Monday morning at 8 am. Students must be logged in to their D303 account to order.

Fall PSAT Testing

The Fall PSAT date is October 13th. 9th grade students will be taking College Board's PSAT 8/9. This will be an online exam and students will need their Chromebooks.

10th and 11th grade students will be taking College Board's PSAT/NMSQT exam in the traditional paper and pencil format.

All Compass Academy 9th-11th grade students will take the PSAT at their home high school. The test is on a Wednesday, so students who do not typically attend classes at their home high school will have the option to take district transportation to and from East or North that day.

More information about this will be shared as we get closer to the testing day.

Open House Recap

The Compass Academy staff enjoyed meeting many of our students' parents last Wednesday at Open House. Thanks to everyone who stopped by! In case you were unable to make it to Compass last week, here are a few highlights:

Extracurricular Clubs & Activities

Compass Academy clubs will begin meeting this week! In response to student interest, the clubs we will initially offer include Culinary Club, Book & Movie Club, Student Activities Club, Chess/Board Games Club, and Yearbook. There will also be a club that directs and produces the morning announcements. The first of our quarterly community service events, giving students and their families the chance to positively impact others in the Fox Valley area, will take place at the end of this month.

In addition, because students indicated an interest in special school events, a group of students, the self-named Beautification and Festivities Committee, has already started planning for activities during Halloween week at Compass. Students will get more information about this soon.

Navigation, Extended Study Option for Students

Since there is not failure at Compass Academy, there is just "not yet" when it comes to demonstrating competency, students who do not demonstrate competency in their 1st quarter courses will be given the opportunity to continue to work with support, as needed, during either Block C (2:30-3:45 pm on all school days but Wed.) or Block D (4:15-6:45 pm, Tues. & Thurs.) in the 2nd quarter in order to earn credit for those courses. Students who do not demonstrate competency for a course within the semester will not receive credit for that course unless they opt to continue to work with support during Navigation in Block C or Block D in 3rd quarter. Our goal is for every student to demonstrate competency in every course, regardless of the time needed to meet that goal.
