Dear Parents,

Hanover County Public Schools will be participating in the Richmond Times-Dispatch Spelling Bee through the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. All students in grades 3-8 are welcome to participate.

All spelling bees (school and county) will be administered via THE ONLINE TESTING PLATFORM.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee’s online testing platform allows schools and sponsors to host the spelling bee safely and securely via online tests. To compete in our school competition, your child must have a current account in the platform for this school year.

If your child would like to participate in the school spelling bee, please watch this video. It will give you instructions on how to register your child for the spelling bee. The registration link is shared in the video. Parents must register their child to participate in their school’s spelling bee by November 25, 2022.

Once you have created your child’s account, I will be able to assign the appropriate online test to your child. Your child must complete the test between December 1 - December 9, 2022. The test can be taken on any device with a web browser, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smart phones. Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge are our preferred browsers. We do not support Safari for desktop or Internet Explorer.

The student winner from each school with the highest score will move on to compete in the county spelling bee competition, which will also be held through the Online Testing Platform. If your child is the winner for their school, more information will be shared at a later date.

The dates of instruction for students at KCES will be January 31-February 2, 2023. More information, including opt-out forms will be coming prior to the scheduled lessons.
