Maverick Challenge Results
1st place - $500 awarded to - FARE - Dillyn Whittymore, Sam Everett, Treyton Caudell
Our other team of Freeze Bandage also did an amazing presentation as well; the judges said it was very difficult to pick a winner between the 2 Scottsburg groups - Logan Weilbaker, Gavin Borden, Nicholas Murphy
Our FARE group will compete in the Maverick Challenge Regional Competition in Columbus on March 3rd for a chance to win $5000.
The Maverick Challenge is a high school business planning competition for high school students in Southern Indiana.
The Maverick Challenge aims to further develop the innovative spirit of our region by reaching out to high school students and showing them viable career opportunities through entrepreneurship.
Students must attend a school or live in one of the participating counties. Students may work individually or on a team of up to three students (please note - teams can consist of students from different high schools within the county.)
Students will have access to all the tools needed to take their idea from a concept and develop it into a full business plan. Workshops and online tools will be offered in the development phase of the project. Students will have to present their business plan to successful entrepreneurs and small business service providers.
Each county will pick Maverick Challenge winner(s) from their participating schools. Once these winners are determined they will then compete at the regional level along with the other winners from each participating county.
This is a great opportunity to help students learn about viable career opportunities, network with and be mentored by entrepreneurs in the community, and spotlight the young innovators in Southern Indiana.
FFA working in the community
Three Scottsburg FFA members, Kaitlyn Borden, Lauren Hamelman and Kaitlinne Moldero, sit on the SWCD board to keep them up to date on what is happening within the FFA Chapter. The SWCD asked the Scottsburg FFA Chapter to cater the event, as well as have the Scottsburg FFA Officers attend the meeting.
SHS Drama Club working on...The Wizard of Oz
The Scottsburg High School Drama Club will perform The Wizard of Oz on Friday, April 20, Saturday, April 21, and Sunday, April 22 in McClain Hall. The Friday and Saturday shows will start at 6:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee performance will begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 each.
In this theatrical musical version of The Wizard of Oz, audience members will see a faithful adaptation of the 1939 MGM classic film. The production recreates the dialogue and structure of the film, scene for scene. Familiar songs of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "If I Only Had a Brain," "The Merry Old Land of Oz," and "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead" will carry through the SHS Drama Club production.
Not only will SHS students play the lead characters and cast, but the SHS Drama Club will be inviting Scottsburg Middle School and Scott County School District 2 elementary students to participate in the roles of Munchkins, Flying Monkeys, Poppies, Jitterbugs, and Ozians, making it a district-wide event for all ages.
The Scottsburg High School Drama Club production of The Wizard of Oz is more than acting and singing alone. Many Drama Club student members are working backstage and behind the scenes to bring this complex technical show to life. The Drama Club student members are working together to design the choreography, set, sound, lighting, makeup, and other technical facets of theatre.
