Minimum Attendance for Class Credit
Students in elementary and intermediate may be retained in the current grade for excessive absences.
A student in any grade level may not be given credit or a final grade for a class unless the student is in attendance at least 90% of the days the class is offered. The total number of days can be any of the following:
· A combination of unexcused and excused absences
· All unexcused absences
· All excused absences
Even if you have submitted parent notes and/or doctor notes for the absences, the state of Texas considers the total number of days absent to be excessive.
The school year has 177 school days; attending 90% means being present for 160 days and absent no more than 17 days. Your child is out of compliance
IT IS THE PARENT’S LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THEIR CHILD ATTENDS SCHOOL REGULARLY AND IS ON TIME.
The State Compulsory Attendance Law requires that:
· children enrolled in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten are required to follow the state attendance law.
Children enrolled in school must attend all day, every day, for the entire period of instruction, for the entire school year.
Book Fair
Come by the library and check out our Scholastic Book Fair! This is the perfect time to come and purchase a book for your child to give on Valentine's Day!
COUNSELOR’S CORNER
At Youens, KINDNESS is a big deal! On February 10 - 14, 2020 we will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week. This is a great opportunity for everyone to become involved in bringing greater awareness of the importance of kindness and a willingness to translate good intentions into action. Whether it's kindness to oneself, kindness to the Earth, or kindness to others, know that each act, no matter how small, makes a difference and contributes to making our world a better place.
Smart Parenting Tip: Give Your Love Openly - the more children feel loved by you, the more they will listen to you and learn. Unconditional love is a great teacher. Give it with your hugs, kisses and words!
ACADEMIC CORNER: From the Language Arts Department:
Save the date!
Read across America will be held on the week of February 24-28 and to wrap it up we will celebrate Favorite Book Character Day dress-up on Friday February 28th. On this day, guest readers from the District will come to our school to share their favorite stories.
Stay tuned for details!
