EVENTS THIS WEEK!
Career Day: Wednesday, 10/03/18
Freshmen: Francis Tuttle Tours
Buses will meet in front of NGC at 9 am, please board bus with your group of students. Please be in the NGC cafeteria and I will have a poster board for you with your group’s last names on it, and break out into groups by 8:50. Load buses no later than 9:10.
******Students will NOT go to first hour. We will get them rounded up in the cafeteria. We have never done this, so please be patient. Kaitlin Buchanan has done a lot of work trying to organize this, so let's be positive and make it work on Wednesday. Whatever does not work this year will be changed next year, but we need to be positive for the students no matter how smooth or not smooth it may go. You guys are great at being flexible. ;)

UPCOMING EVENTS...
Benchmarks: October 15-17
We will begin assessing students with midterm benchmarks the week of October 15th-17th. We use Achievement Series to build these summative assessments for the purpose of identifying skill mastery and tracking student achievement in order to guide your instruction. Subject-area scope/sequences along with district benchmarks are built by teachers from each department at the NGC/HS.
Teachers of the following courses use a pre-made, district benchmark:
English I, English II, English III, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, US History, and Biology
If you teach a course that is not listed above, you will create and administer a midterm and end of term assessment for students in that course.
New teachers, along with any others, will receive Achievement Series training on Thursday, October 4th from 8-9am in the NGC downstairs lab. The following info will be included in the training.
Mid-Term & Benchmark Test Creation:
Links to MS and HS codes for benchmark test names. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding the naming process. This is to help you organize and make test results easily accessible.
Achievement Series has video and paper tutorials available under Documents in the program.

WICOR Strategies
Here are some more ways that students can use WICOR strategies in your classroom!
Dave Burgiss Picasso Hook
What can they draw that would help them understand and retain the information.
Can they creat a visual?
Can they create a mind map?
Check out this website on mind maps.
Five Characteristics of a Mind map
- The main idea, subject or focus is crystallized in a central image
- The main themes radiate from the central image as 'branches'
- The branches comprise a key image or key word drawn or printed on its associated line
- Topics of lesser importance are represented as 'twigs' of the relevant branch
- The branches form a connected nodal structure
