Boston Marathon Bombing

April 15th, 2013/ Who What When Where Why How?
On this day in April 2 bombs went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The two people responsible were brothers, 19 year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and 26 year old Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Tamerlan was killed by police the same day. Dzhokhar on the other hand was on trial November of last year. He pleaded guilty and received the death penalty. This happened on Boylston Street where the Boston marathon's finish line was. No one really knows why it happened.
Media Portrayal
-One way the media portrayed this was that people thought it was a hoax. They thought that somehow the government set all of this up and faked everything.
-Another thing is that when it happened people were all over the situation every source of media was letting out peoples names and what happened. They new what happened as soon as it happened. They gave information regarding who was killed or just injured.
Bias
One way people are bias about this situation is that people think that just because the men who did this are Muslim that they are automatically guilty. That's not always the case. People saw a teenage boy who they thought looked Muslim so they thought he was the one who did it. The boy was scared for his life! He knew he didn't do it, but because they hadn't found the real suspects yet he wouldn't leave his house because he didn't want people to think it was him.
Another thing is that if you were on the jury, you had to be okay with giving the death penalty because if you didn't agree with the death penalty then you couldn't be on the jury. I don't think that's very fair I mean doesn't the jury vote anyway? So if one person says no to the death penalty and everyone else says yes then it doesn't really matter
Cultural Criticism
I think this whole tragedy was based off of cultural criticism. I think this because it was all about them being Muslim. Just because they were Muslim they were automatically assumed to be guilty. I mean yes they were guilty but that doesn't mean that all Muslims are bad, or out to get the United States. I think after 9/11 people were really weary about the Muslim culture and when this happened they were assumed to be guilty. They even tried to say a teenage boy was guilty just because they though he was Muslim! I don't think that is right at all!
