Everyone Can Code (ECC) - Apple Professional Learning
Technology has a language. It’s called code. And we believe coding is an essential skill. Learning to code teaches you how to solve problems and work together in creative ways. And it helps you build apps that bring your ideas to life. We think everyone should have the opportunity to create something that can change the world. So we’ve designed a program that lets anyone learn, write, and teach code.
We created a comprehensive Everyone Can Code curriculum to help you teach coding to students from kindergarten to college. With teacher guides and lessons, you can introduce the basics on iPad, then advance to building real apps on Mac. So whether your students are first-time coders or aspiring app developers, you’ll have all the tools you need to teach coding in your classroom.
Participants will learn about:
- Learn more about teaching code
- Learn more about the Get Started with Code curriculum
- Learn more about the Swift Playgrounds curriculum
- Learn more about the App Development with Swift curriculum
Details are being finalized and when registration is available from Apple it will be sent out. There is no cost, but there is a limited number of seats, so save the dates!

Actively Learn - Pilot Sign Up
Grant Wood AEA is entering the 3rd year of our partnership with Actively Learn, and we’re forming our next cohort of pilot participants for the 2018-19 school year. We are reaching out to districts/buildings who would like to participate.
What: Actively Learn is an online literacy platform used by numerous schools in Grant Wood AEA to ensure every student reads for depth. Teachers can more effectively implement research-based literacy practices so that students learn more deeply when they read in English, Science, and Social Studies. The company is supported by the Gates Foundation, National Science Foundation, and has been used by over 1.5M teachers and students.
Cost: $5/student for each building. GWAEA has worked to provide a group volume discount for GWAEA members and is providing a subsidy to reduce the cost by 50%.
Training and Support: Grant Wood AEA will co-host trainings throughout the year to help train and support teachers on Actively Learn. Your teachers will also have access to unlimited webinar sessions with Actively Learn, and premium support from their team.
Many teachers have taken advantage of the features of the free version of Actively Learn and if you would like to know which teachers have been using the tool to support literacy in your district or more about the product we are happy to share more details with you.
Please let us know of your interest by May 25, 2018 so we can include your teams in planning and training. This Interest Form should be completed by a building or district administrator.
