Description of Conference Content
How do I get my students to simply follow the procedures in the classroom? Why is Ashley constantly calling out? How do I handle Justin when he's talking back to me? What should I do when Jack shuts down and refuses to participate? How can I help Molly when she becomes explosive or runs out of the classroom?
Despite numerous theories on student behavior and the recent upsurge in school-wide discipline programs, the above questions remain. And student discipline remains to be a longstanding challenge for educators.
Teaching students self-discipline and how to manage their own behavior is the focus of this four day seminar. Vitally important to this process is helping students recognize their personal power related to their behavior and to accept responsibility for their actions. It will begin by examining traditional student discipline systems and approaches to determine how some of these practices may actually contribute to the very behaviors they aim to eradicate.
Participants will discuss the relationship between classroom management, student discipline and student misbehavior and role play various student discipline scenarios. Specific, practical strategies related to each of these three components will be modeled and practiced. Participants are invited and encouraged to bring their specific questions and concerns for discussion.
See Daily Schedules below for more content detail.
