Message from the Principal

HRE Families,

As I am sure you are aware, we have already had an eventful year here at Hoosier Road Elementary! Hoosier Road students have made an impact locally by literally collecting over a ton of pasta during the 2017 Pasta Bowl. This was more than any other school in our District…including both high schools! They also made an impact nationally by organizing an enormous effort to assist Braeburn Elementary in Houston, Texas after being displaced during hurricane Harvey. Our semi-trailer filled with school supplies and personal items was received with awe and admiration by the staff and students at Braeburn. Now our students will have an opportunity to form global relationships. We are in the process of forming a partnership with Xing Zhi Experimental Elementary in Ningbo, China. I will be traveling to China next week to visit our sister school and make our partnership official. I will be sharing photos and videos during my trip with classrooms at Hoosier Road. Upon returning we will spend the remainder of the school year building our relationship. I am so excited to see what the students at Hoosier Road Elementary will do on a global scale!

Weekly G.R.I.P. Winners

All HRE students know about G.R.I.P. - an acronym which stands for Gratitude Respect Integrity Purpose. Students may earn "GRIP SLIPS" by demonstrating any one of these character traits. Each week, teachers draw one name from their classroom Grip Slips and that student is the Grip Slip winner for the week from that classroom. Those names are then entered into a weekly drawing per grade level; one name is drawn per grade level and those students come to the office to choose a small prize. We are pleased to announce our Grip Slip winners for the week:

Kindergarten: Alayna Fitzgerald from Mrs. Norton's class demonstrated Respect.

1st Grade: Victory Johnson from Mrs. Gue's class demonstrated Respect.

2nd Grade: Janiya Wilson from Mrs. Lofus' class demonstrated Purpose.

3rd Grade: Abena Ossei from Miss Parrish's class demonstrated Respect.

4th Grade: Kha' Irya White from Mrs. McLean's class demonstrated Integrity.

Movie Night: Moana

Our first PTO Movie Night is tonight from 6pm - 8:15pm. Please enter through door 10 by the gym. This event is only for the HRE students that have already signed up. Unfortunately, space is limited and you will not be able to sign up at the door.
