Classes & Schedules
Check out this LINK to access all the courses that are offered this year.
Schedules will be on Powerschool by end of day 5/31. Students will report to the commons area on the first day. They will receive a copy of their schedule from their 1st-hour teacher.
Schedule changes will be limited due to class availability. Schedule changes can only be requested after the first day of summer school by the student reporting to the front office. Despite when your student signed up, some classes get canceled or are only offered a limited number of times and therefore fill up extremely quickly. Sometimes students get placed in classes they did not enroll for due to this reason.
How to Enroll
Registration opens 2/22. The registration process takes a couple of steps.
- Register your student student through PowerSchool. *This must be done through the parent portal. If you do not know your PowerSchool Parent Parent login information, call 417-724-6375. You will not be able to reset your password on your own. You must email registration@nixaschools.net to get it reset.
- Once you have completed that process, the next screen will have a Google Form linked for scheduling. You must complete this Google Form. This form is how you will enroll your student in specific classes.
- You will not receive a confirmation that you have registered your child for summer school when you go through steps #1 or #2. Look for an email to the account you typed on the Google form on 5/17 to confirm you have registered and selected classes for your student.
Check out Summer School Registration for directions on how to register through PowerSchool. We encouraged you to sign up your student as soon as possible as summer school can fill up.
Other Information
- Transportation: Limited transportation (bus services) for summer school will be provided by the district. You may look on Powerschool for bus numbers. If you have any questions about transportation, please contact the Bus Barn at 724-1555.
- Attendance: Regular attendance is important and expected. Students will be dropped from the class roster on the 4th unexcused absence. Please call the front office to have an absence excused (724-6400).
- Discipline: Expectations in student behavior are the same as in a regular school year at the Junior High; however, the consequences will be different. In-School Suspension (ISS) is not available during Summer School, so students will be excused from the summer session upon a second discipline referral or any serious discipline that would result in ISS during the school year. Any serious violation that would result in a suspension during the regular year will result in immediate dismissal from summer school and possible repercussions the following school year.
- The summer dress code expectations are the same as during the regular school year.
Credit Recovery
Credit Recovery courses are offered in the four core areas, English, Math, Science, Social Studies. These courses are designed to recover core credits from failed courses during the school year. It is only for students who previously attended JH (7th or 8th graders enrolled during 2023-2024 school year). These courses should only be signed up for IF you received communication from an assistant principal that credit recovery is recommended or required for your student.
Commonly Asked Questions
What school supplies does my student need?
- Students should bring a backpack, writing utensils and paper.
- Chromebooks will be checked out to students attending summer school and will be collected at the conclusion of summer school. This includes their charger as well. If a charger is not returned, one will not be checked out to them at the start of the regular school year.
- Students may purchase lunch using their student ID number. In addition, we do have two vending machines with snacks students can access during lunch but they are cash (dollars) only.
Will schedules be emailed out?
- No, you should view your students schedule by logging into PowerSchool on May 31st after 3:00 pm. If you log in before you might see a schedule but it will not be official until the above date.
What if my student is in a class they did not sign up for?
- This can happen due to availability of teachers and number of students requesting that class. Your student can request a schedule change after the first day of summer school by going to the front office. There is no schedule guarantees. The best way to get a class is to sign up as early as possible.
Does my student have to take a full day?
- If you are able to provide transportation, your student can opt to take one block, two blocks (half day), or a full day (four blocks).
