Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
October 20, 2018
Phew! We made it through our first quarter exams... and better yet, so did our students!
Walking through the halls, there was a mixed bag of studying, checking concepts with peers, and a little bit of nerves mixed with positive energy! As many of you complete grading the exams, I hope that we see that students fared well overall. They had a lot going for them... as we have an outstanding group of individuals that dedicate their time and energy making all of our students' lives productive, meaningful, and fulfilled.
Thank you, faculty, for all you do to push, expand, and ignite the fire within each of our students. Without you, there is no Marian Central!
The only out-of-the-ordinary event that occurred this week besides exams was Monday's Principal's Coffee. We had the largest turnout yet! Parents had a lot of great things to say about Marian, as well as a few suggestions. Administration and the SIP team will be discussing some of these ideas in the near future.
Looking ahead...
This coming week brings the Freshmen to their very first Marian Retreat... this year, split into two days so that the students receive a little more intimate experience. We pray that this Wednesday and Thursday, out Freshmen find out more deeply what it means to live out their life as a faith-filled Catholic teen. Once the retreat schedule is finalized, we will be sharing it with all of you. A reminder to all... when students are on retreats, we expect them to only have to focus on their spirituality in that moment, and not about the other distractions school might provide. It is for this reason that we use the retreat annotation, just as we use the absent annotation, allowing students one day for every day absent to make up what they may have missed.
Tuesday our seniors will be meeting with Jostens during 9th period in order to find out about ordering caps & gowns and their graduation announcement options. After you take attendance, please bring your seniors down to the cafeteria. If you have a split grade class, please just send down the seniors and stay with the rest of your class. It is certainly not too early for these seniors to begin thinking about graduation... and what it means to be the leaders of the rest of the student body. Staffulty should be holding these students to a higher level of expectations, so please, when our seniors fail to do what is right with dress code or behavior, provide them with a gentle reminder of this! On the flip side, certainly use those seniors who are doing what's right as a great example for the underclassmen!
Tuesday is also underclassmen picture day. Unlike the seniors, they are expected to wear their uniform... which beginning Monday is sweater season. Students will be getting their pictures taken either in PE, Economics, or Government classes. The pictures will be taken in Lander's Pavilion, so once attendance is taken, these classes should be coming down during their class period. The sooner they come down, the sooner the classes can finish and resume class time.
The week will end on Friday with our Grandparents' Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students' grandparents to see where the students go to school, and understand the importance of a Catholic education. Some grandparents may be reminiscing, as they may have even sent their own children to Marian back in the day! Please know that there may be a few students who, after the mass, may mingle with their grandparents before coming back to class, so thank you for your flexibility!
Have a wonderful week!
