Rockbrook Reminder

Rockbrook Elementary School's Weekly Updates | 10-25-19

Fun and Friendly Costumes Please!

Halloween is coming soon. It’s time to think about your costumes. For our school parade and party please wear only fun and friendly costumes. Fun and friendly excludes blood, gore, scary/frightening masks or clothing, and weapons. If anyone has questions concerning the appropriateness of a costume, please contact the office. Thank you for keeping things on the fun and light side!

Note: Given limited time for changing, we encourage you to reserve makeup for your evening trick-or-treating.

Parade and Parties

Please do not have your child wear their costume to school. There will be time to change before the parade. The parade will begin at 2:30 in the hallway by the kindergarten rooms. It will progress into the west hallway and up to the lobby. Weather permitting, the students will go out the west doors, around the north side of the building and come back in the main entrance, then back down the east hallway. If it’s raining, the parade will go through the gym. Parties in the classroom will follow the parade.

Food Safety

Please remember to follow the District Approved Snack List. Linked is the lists of what to bring for parties or birthdays. Thanks for helping to make Rockbrook a caring community for all of our students. We hope you have a fun and safe Halloween!

Box Tops Due Monday, Oct 28th

Our Fall Box Tops are coming due. As you know, this year Box Tops began to phase out their physical clippings. As they move through this transition, families can both clip Box Tops to send to school and, for items that have switched over fully, use the Box Tops apps to collect digitally. If you have collected Box Tops this fall we need these sent in by this Monday, October 28th, so that we can count and submit these. Collecting Box Tops helps earn money to support our school and Community Club.

Rockbrook is ready to try something new! Bulldog Pump-Up is our own version of Fuel-Up to Play 60. Our goal is to keep kids active and healthy by moving and making good food choices. Throughout the year students will participate in a variety of activities such as GoNoodle, field day, and Try-a-Bite.

We invite you to participate in drawing a logo for use with all our Bulldog Pump-Up communication. From Oct. 25th through Nov. 1st we will be accepting logo entries and Student Council will pick the top 3. Then all Rockbrook students will vote on the winner.

Good luck and get drawing!

Thank you to those who have already contributed. We are still collecting legos for this project and will soon be starting work on the building of the wall boards. If you still have Legos you'd like to contribute, please feel free to send those in.

Book Fair Success

Thanks to Melissa Reagan and Cassie Arneson who organized and staffed our Book Fair during conferences. This year the book fair sold more than $4,500. Book fair funds help to provide books for the library, new Kindergarten Student books given at Kindergarten Round Up, good behavior incentives, and much more.

Winter Holiday Store Volunteers Needed

We need your help Rockbrook families!!

December 12th and 13th we will have a Holiday Shop set up in the Multipurpose room for all the kids to come in and shop for everyone in the family. Items from $1 to $15 will be on display and available for purchase. We need several volunteers to do this!! If anyone is able to head up and lead this event please contact Amy Sladovnik at or 402-212-3088.

Morning Drop Off, Please Help Us Keep Kids Safe

As temperatures begin to dip, we are asking parents to be sure to use our expected student drop off areas for student safety. On the North end of our building, the front circle drive is reserved for school buses and families of students with an accessibility need. Keeping traffic in this area minimized helps keep kids safe as they gather to enter the building. Please do not drop other students off in the circle drive.

Parents dropping off their child on the North end, should use the North Parking Lot Loop, letting their child out at the marked student drop off zone. Most mornings, Mr. Higginbotham is there to help students out of the car and keep traffic moving efficiently.

If you would like to review our drop off and pick up procedures for both north and south lots, please download that here.

Supporting our Veterans Through Care Packages

As November approaches this year Rockbrook is excited to participate in gathering and sending care packaged to our troops. Through a local family connection, we will be gathering supplies to include in these packages as well as donations to help with shipping. Please take a look at the requested care package supply lists. We will be gathering these throughout the month of October. Please help us meet or exceed our goal of 20 care packages.

•PLEASE SAVE your HY-VEE receipts dated between September 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.

•Hy Vee will donate $1 for every $200 spent. This adds up, we have been earning between $400 & $600 per year!!
