Superintendent's Update
October 2019
Note From the Superintendent
Dear ESD parents, guardians and staff,
I love fall semester, and there are many great things happening in ESD. I had an opportunity to visit the professional learning communities at Morgan Middle School this week. I am excited about how teachers at Morgan are using the adaptive software "Imagine Learning" to differentiate their instruction and use the data from this program to personalize the learning for students.
I also attended the statewide conference for "Highly Capable" students and look forward to having ongoing conversations with our teachers and parents on how to best serve this student group, as well as, provide project based lessons and other authentic learning experiences for all students. Below is a great video about the benefits of project based learning. Many teachers in our district are already offering these types of experiences for students. Our future work together, to accomplish the Board Ends, will include embedding this type of approach into the existing curriculum.

ESD Board Ends/ Outcomes for Students
During the 2019-2020 school year, we will be focusing on empowering every student to achieve our district-wide outcomes which are also called our Board Ends. We call these outcomes the Board Ends because our Board of Education will be supporting these outcomes with both policies and allocation of resources.
Additionally, this year we will be identifying ways to measure our progress in meeting these Board Ends, as well as, developing strategies to support our students in achieving these outcomes.
Our Board Ends are:
Solid Academic and Future Ready Skills
Successful Citizens in an Ever-Changing World
Strong Connections with: Peers, Staff, School and local Community
Freshman Success Initiative at EHS
STAND for Children: Freshmen Success
Bond Construction Update
Mount Stuart Elementary
We are pleased to share that Mt. Stuart will be the first new building to be constructed, just north of the existing Mt. Stuart. Our hope is to start construction of the new Mt. Stuart in April. The Mt. Stuart staff will move directly into their new building after it is constructed. Please join us in celebrating the plans for the new Mt. Stuart on October 30th from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm in the Mt. Stuart library. Refreshments will be served, and our architects will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Although the existing Mt. Stuart Elementary is in need of replacement, the gym is still a beneficial asset and will be saved. This structure will remain as a separate building and will continue to serve as a valuable space for physical education and recreation, for both our students and our community, respectively. Additionally, we will also be renovating the Annex building located west of the existing Mt. Stuart to serve as a forever home for our developmental preschool program. Currently, this program resides at CWU, and we are eager to bring our students onto the Mt. Stuart campus.
One of many things I appreciate about the Ellensburg community is their willingness to be involved in sharing their feedback concerning district projects and supporting our efforts. I am thankful for the privilege of serving the amazing students here in Ellensburg.
Sincerely,
Jinger Haberer, Superintendent
