What's Happening at Venable, April 2019
We Need YOU! PTO Officers Needed for 19-20
The PTO is actively seeking individuals interested in the position of treasurer, co-president and secretary for the 2019-2020 school year. For detailed descriptions of the positions and time involved, please click on this link. We would like to have names submitted no later than May 6 in time for the vote on May 13. Please consider serving the school in one of these critical roles.
Congratulations, Melissa Combs!
Ms. Combs was recently named Venable's Golden Apple Award winner. Ms. Combs got a huge round of applause from the student body when this was announced at our last school-wide morning meeting--a testament to how much she is appreciated by our students. Thank you, Ms. Combs, for keeping art alive at Venable!
Report Cards in Thursday Folders April 18
As a reminder, please check your child's Thursday folder for your third quarter report card. Envelopes should be returned with a parent/guardian signature indicating that you've received the report card. If your child has been recommended to attend summer school and you have not yet turned in your intent form, please do so ASAP. We are making staffing plans for the summer and need an accurate count of students who will be attending.

Kindergarten Registration & Open House April 18
Please spread the word that we will be open from 3:30-6pm for all families who have children who will be attending Venable next year and need to register for the first time. While this is advertised as Kindergarten registration, we will also be accepting registration documents for students in other grades. Kindergarten classrooms will be open for students to visit. Families will also have a chance to sign up for one of two Kindergarten Camp days this summer. Required documentation and registration forms are posted on the CCS website and parents are encouraged to do all paperwork online before coming to Open House. Computers will be available for parents who wish to complete the paperwork at school.
Walker Electives Forms--for 4th Grade Families
5th graders at Walker will be taking two different electives next year: a fine art plus one other elective such as Spanish, STEM, or a second fine art. Electives sign-up sheets are going home in this week's Thursday folders for rising 5th grade. Please complete the form with your child and return it to the homeroom teacher no later than April 26.
SOL Test Dates
Families of 3rd and 4th graders, please be aware that SOL testing will begin in May. Reading and Math will be tested for both grades, and each test will take place over two days. The dates for testing have been set:
3rd Grade Reading: May 14-15
3rd Grade Math: May 20-21
4th Grade Reading: May 8-9
4th Grade Math: May 22-23
If you know in advance that your child is going to be absent on one or more test dates, please let Ms. Paige, our testing coordinator know. We will make arrangements for an alternate test date for your child.
