PATRIOT PARENT POST
by Principal Kate Wyman
Thank you to all of our parents and guardians for attending Parent/Teacher Conferences. We are appreciative of your feedback on the parent survey. We value our partnership!
During the month of November, parents, staff and students will have an additional opportunity to share thoughts and opinions of Jefferson School on the 5Essentials Survey. A letter and link will be sent to all individuals with more information when the window is open to complete the survey. The information is then compiled and shared on our Illinois Report Card. We appreciate everyone taking the time to complete the survey.
We would like to invite our 3rd & 4th Grade families to the upcoming Boomwhacker & Recorder concert on Nov. 6 at 6:30pm. We are blessed to be able to host our concerts right here at Jefferson School. Doors will open at 6:00pm.
This year, we are inviting our K-2 families to our first ever Family Reading Night. All K-2 families are invited to visit their respective classroom(s) and join us in the gym for special guest readers, craft & activity, snacks, and display from Morton Public Library. Please RSVP by returning your slip or clicking the link in the newsletter below. We can't wait to encourage the love of reading with our Patriots!
During the month of November, we hope you are able to join with your family and friends to remember all of your blessings. Look for information soon on how to share your abundance with others in need! Happy Thanksgiving!

NOVEMBER-Book of the Month
Fish In A Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
“Everybody is smart in different ways. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its life believing it is stupid.”
Ally has been smart enough to fool a lot of smart people. Every time she lands in a new school, she is able to hide her inability to read by creating clever yet disruptive distractions. She is afraid to ask for help; after all, how can you cure dumb? However, her newest teacher Mr. Daniels sees the bright, creative kid underneath the trouble maker. With his help, Ally learns not to be so hard on herself and that dyslexia is nothing to be ashamed of. As her confidence grows, Ally feels free to be herself and the world starts opening up with possibilities. She discovers that there’s a lot more to her—and to everyone—than a label, and that great minds don’t always think alike.
APP of the Month
Touch and Learn - Emotions
Mrs. Hobson, LSW recommends the IOS app called Touch and Learn - Emotions for November's App of the Month. This app is customizable, fun, and easy to use. It is ideal for developing social skills and/or learning how to cope with stress. According to the website: this app is for all students and of all abilities. Touch and Learn - Emotions is gaming platform based and is at this writing only $1.99.
