Mickle Messenger
Family Updates
Week of September 13, 2021
Mickle School Families,
The 2021-2022 school year is off to a great start! It is wonderful to see our Mickle students in each school each day and build the strong routines this initial week for a successful year ahead. Students have begun to build their classroom communities, enjoyed lunch and recess with grade-level classmates, and engaged in classroom and Special Area lessons.
At the end of each school week, the "Mickle Messenger" will be sent out in efforts to provide families with relevant information and updates. We look forward to your partnership throughout the year and appreciate all that you do to support your child's learning and development!
- As you are aware, this weekend marked the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. We mourn the nearly 3,000 lives taken too soon and the events that forever changed the lives of individuals, communities, and our nation. It can be difficult to explain the events to children, but it's important for our students to understand how such a tragedy is important to recognize when honoring our country. If helpful with at-home conversations with your children, the following article helps frame age-appropriate discussions: How to Talk about September 11th - 20th Anniversary
- Information sessions for our Mickle Band and Strings programs were held this past Thursday evening. If you have additional questions or interest in either instrumental program, please contact Mr. Stewart/Mr. Stewart (stewartj@eastgreenwich.k12.nj.us) for Band or Mrs. Stewart (stewartj@eastgreenwich.k12.nj.us) for Strings.
- Our Mickle "Back to School Night" will be held on Thursday, September 30. Information regarding the event will be provided in the near future.
- Save the Date - Picture Day for Mickle students will be on October 13.
- A reminder that school lunches are available to all students at no cost this year due to federal provisions from the USDA. Students still continue to notify their teachers that they are purchasing school lunch on a daily basis during homeroom.
- Please support your children in developing solid routines for this school year, including discussing their daily learning, checking their HABs, reminding them to charge Chromebooks nightly, and be prepared with all school materials prior to arriving each morning. These initial weeks are important in setting the foundation for routines that help students to be successful throughout the year.
- Character Dares are prompts and reflective conversations organized around specific character challenges (i.e., dares) that provide students, parents and staff with ideas, opportunities, and accountability to put character in action. Students will get character Dares once a week. Families will also get character dares to try out!
September's Family Character Dare is below:
"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."
