East Albemarle News
September 2021
And just like that summer falls into September ...
Transportation Information
First and foremost, THANK YOU for your patience and understanding as our Transportation Department works the kinks out of travel arrangements during these first days of the school year. Transportation has been delayed which has caused stress and concern for all, but they are trying their best to ensure student safety.
---
Safety is our top priority at East! We will do whatever it takes to ensure your child's safety throughout the school day, but especially during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. In order to accommodate your child's transportation plans we ask that you communicate all arrival / dismissal arrangements with their homeroom teacher in writing (note, email, etc.) 24 hours in advance of a change. If you are not able to give the teacher a 24 hour advance notice, please call the East Albemarle Main Office (704-961-3500) to share those plans with our staff to ensure they are received and implemented accordingly. We will NOT make adjustments to transportation based on a child's word and cannot allow early checkouts between 3:15 and 3:40 pm each day.
A review of the following documents will familiarize you with our arrival and dismissal plans for each mode of transportation.
School Bus -
- Bus Transportation Request Form - Completion of this form is REQUIRED for any bus stop to be established, even if the child rode a bus last year. There may be a wait-period of up to 10 days for a stop to be established after completion of the form. We encourage you to complete this as soon as possible as parents / guardians are responsible for providing their child with car transport to / from school during that waiting period.
- Bus Rider Information
Car Rider -
- Car Rider Name Sign Request Form - Completion of this form is REQUIRED for families wishing to pick up a child by car in the afternoon. A name sign will be MANDATORY for pick up as of September 1st; a person wanting to pick up a child without a name sign will be directed to the front office to have their identification verified before they are able to leave campus with a child.
- Car Rider Line Information
- We kindly ask that all parents remain in their vehicle when picking up their child; walk-ups to the car rider line area will NOT be allowed as this compromises safety.
Walkers -
- Walker Information - Families who plan to have their child walk home from school will want to review this linked document to note the two locations from which they will be able to pick up their child at the end of the day.
Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS)
Are you familiar with our East Albemarle PBIS expectations? If not ask your child to fill you in! Now that they have a few days of school under their belt, they should be well versed in the positive behavior expectations as outlined on our PBIS Matrix (click here to view!).
This PBIS Parent Letter (click here!) will also provide you with valuable information to help you support your child at home as they work to earn an invitation to our first quarter merit event.
Have you connected to your child's Class Dojo account?
If not, you will want to do so as soon as possible so you can help them keep track of their points! Each student will need to earn 300 Dojo points by the end of the first quarter to be invited to a merit event. Class Dojo is also a great way to stay up-to-date with important classroom and school information. If you do not already have a Dojo account, reach out to your child's teacher to obtain a unique class code and directions for joining!
Dojo Point Check-Up!
After the first week of school, your child should have approximately 40 points earned! Do they have 40?
- If they have earned more than 40 - GREAT JOB! They should keep BARKing and demonstrating awesome behavior!
- If they do not have 40, and are significantly below that goal number, you will want to discuss the choices made and how they plan to make positive changes to earn additional points. IT IS NEVER TOO LATE to make a change!!!
Mask & Dress Code Reminder
Masking for Covid-19 -
This is just a friendly reminder that masking to prevent the spread of Covid-19 is mandatory in accordance with the SCS Mask Resolution. We are excited to be able to return to school 5 days per week this year and want to maximize the time we have to instruct your child. Help us all stay healthy and in school by sending your child with a mask!- Students should wear an appropriately fitted mask that covers their nose and mouth.
- Masks should be worn at all times, unless consuming food or playing outside when six feet of physical distance are then required.
Dress Code -
School uniforms are NOT required, but students should adhere to the SCS Dress Code. East students have done a wonderful job dressing for success this past week! One area we need to focus on is footwear. Students should wear closed-toed shoes each day; Crocs (or similar shoe styles) are NOT permitted. We appreciate you adhering to the SCS Dress Code Policy!
Book Fair - September 13-17
The Scholastic Book Fair will visit East Albemarle during the week of September 13-17!
The fair will be open to students for shopping during their regularly scheduled media class time. Families may preview the book fair online by clicking here! Parents may come to East to shop with their child during morning arrival each day (8:25 am - 8:55 am). Due to Covid-19 health and safety protocols, we kindly ask that the number of visitors per student be limited to ONE and all visitors abide by the SCS Mask Resolution while shopping.
