In 1941 Lina was preparing for art school. But one night the solvet soldiers barged in deporting Lina, her mother, and her younger brother, they were separated from their father. They were put on buses with lots of other people, one person they look from the hospital not long after the girl gave birth. They had no idea where they were going or how long it would take to get there. Then they finally arrive in Siberia, and where taken to farms to work. Lina has to find a way to contact her father about where they are without the solvet soldiers knowing what she is planning to tell her father, if they figure out her code they will kill her.

It gives you an idea what it was like back in World War 2, like how certain people were treated back then. It shows that family will do anything to see each other, or keeping them alive through any situation.
