February 2022
Principal's Message
Stevenson Families,
We are so happy all students are back on-site! While learning online brought many challenges for families and for educators, we are so very proud of our Stevenson scholars!
We had over 80% of our scholars fully engaging in online learning and over 90% of our scholars fully or partially meeting expectations of online learning. What does that say about our Stevenson students, families, and educators? We have dedicated scholars and families with talented educators engaging students in learning daily.
February is Black History month and I Love to Read month. We are looking forward to celebrating historical and present African American leaders along with growing a love for reading. In February, we also get to meet with all families for conferences. To minimize COVID risk, February conferences will be online.
Kindly,
Veronica Mathison
Stevenson Elementary Principal

Student Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Please help us to keep all students safe during pick up and drop off times.
- Please be patient and kind. We are all working to get your students to you as efficiently and safely as possible.
- The outside lane is for dropping off and picking up students. The inside lane is for exiting only. Students should not be entering or exiting vehicles in the inside lane of the roundabout.
- Pull your vehicles all the way forward. This allows for as many families as possible to be in the pick-up and drop-off lane.
- Please stay in your vehicle and help your student exit and enter the vehicle from the right hand side. This makes sure students are safe and not near any exiting vehicles. If you need to assist your child, please park your vehicle in a space and meet them at the sidewalk near the flagpole or walk them to the main entrance.
Thank you for your assistance and patience in helping to keep our students safe in the parking lot.

Grade Level Updates!
Kindergarten!
The Kindergarteners have been working very hard on reading and writing stories and practicing teen numbers in math. In the afternoons we get to practice those skills with partners during center time! They get to read together, work on the computer, help each other write sentences and even get to work on puzzles!
First Grade!
1st Grade has been working on sequencing in our literacy unit and we learned about the butterfly life cycle. We have also been learning place value and teen numbers in math.
Second Grade!
Second grade has been having a blast learning. In math we have been working on adding two-digit by two-digit numbers. In inquiry we have been exploring Where we are in Time and Place. The scholars are learning all about perspective and how each of us may have different perspectives based on our experiences. We even took time to create Vision Boards for 2022, where each second grader came up with things they wanted to get better at or do more of.
Third Grade!
3rd graders are busy learning how to multiply and divide in their new math unit! During blended learning, our scholars have faced challenges head on and continued to keep a growth mindset. They are looking forward to our field trip to Springbrook this month where they will have the opportunity to snowshoe!
Fourth Grade!
The fourth graders did an awesome job online, showing up and showing integrity as they worked through a challenging shift to blended learning. We are so excited to get the kids back in school and get back to learning in person. As we move into February, we are going to be continuing our math unit on multi-digit division, and moving into our 4th unit – equations and word problems. In this unit we will be using algebraic thinking to find missing values and complete word problems. In Writing, we will be starting a new unit called boxes and bullets, where we will challenge the fourth graders to form and argue their opinions. In reading we will continue to work on our comprehension skills, our word studies, and our fluency. In Unit of Inquiry, we have begun to study our country’s regions, landforms, and culture. We will shift into a culminating project of studying a particular state and creating a state report to share with our classmates.
