Spooner High Update
April 3, 2017
Steaming into the Home Stretch for Spooner Rails
Fourth quarter is now upon us. At Spooner High School, this term is one of the busiest of the year. Between sporting events, testing schedules, award ceremonies, and graduation, there is much added to the daily lives of staff and students. We are working hard to set the tone that this term is just as (and for many more) important as term one. Please encourage your Spooner student to put in best efforts and communicate with staff if issues arise. In just two, short months this year will close. Let's work together to enter into this stretch in partnership!
Senior Class to Retreat: Wednesday, April 12, 2017
As our Class of 2017 prepares to transition into the next phase of their lives, we are proud to assist them in the processing of and reflecting on that experience. As adults, we can all look back at our high school days and consider how we ended it, goodbyes we did not say, and moments that passed by too quickly. Since 2015, Spooner Area School District has partnered with Youth Frontiers to facilitate a Wisdom Retreat. Senior class members come out of the day ready to end the school year with meaning and intention. We expect all of our seniors to participate in this special event planned just for them. Permission slips will be sent home this week with all students and copies emailed through Family Access messaging. Please return the forms by April 10th. Questions can be directed to Sarah Johnson or Dawn Meyers.
American Red Cross Blood Drive: Wednesday, April 12, 2017
Our Student Council is partnering once again with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive here at Spooner High on Wednesday, April 12th from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We are especially seeking help this year from our families and community since our senior class is out for that day. Please consider scheduling an appointment by contacting Brenda Derousseau at derousseaub@spooner.k12.wi.us.
State Testing Upcoming
The State of Wisconsin testing rounds for freshman and sophomore classes are upcoming. Just as juniors take the ACT, our freshman and sophomore students will be taking the ACT Aspire at the end of the month and into May. In addition, sophomores complete the Wisconsin Forward Exam in social studies. Please keep these dates in mind for any appointments you may be scheduling. Students who are not here on the day of testing will make it up, so it would be best for them to be present on these days.
10th Grade:
Wisconsin Forward Exam (Social Studies) April 27th
ACT Aspire May 9th and May 11th
9th Grade:
ACT Aspire May 10th and May 12thScheduling Process for 2017-2018 Courses
Thank you for all of the families who were able to make it to the evening with Dawn Meyers about scheduling. If you were not able to make it, we hope you and your Spooner student were able to speak about their course planning. We will be completing the scheduling process with students by the end of April. This will include them scheduling the courses that are available based upon the master schedule that is created from the requests students made in Skyward. Please contact the counseling office if you have questions.
