Looking like a beautiful week....let’s make it awesome!
Principal’s Prose
Greetings Lions,
I hope that you were able to recharge and enjoy the beauty of the weekend! With the holiday and giving season upon us, I hope that you all are remembering to gift yourself with special moments with your families, students and colleagues as there is no present like the gift we have to take advantage and make the most of today!
As educators and those who share our services to care for kids, it is EASY to forget about ourselves, as the focus is often on others. It's just how we are wired as educators, as it comes with the "calling". With that said, we must remember just how valuable the gifts we give are to students. Despite any circumstance, the gift and power of positivity, possibility and perspective remains ours, and what a gift that is to cherish and share! We possess the influence to covert our students' "I can't" to "I can", "I don't" to "I do" and fears into beliefs. Your work is special as you are truly a gift to students!
Counting Monday, we have 10 days remaining before the winter break. The high expectations we have for students should set the stage for an exciting two weeks of putting the finishing touches on this semester's work. The gift of student success and accomplishment remains in our hands, so let's give it our best at giving it away!
As always, remember that teamwork still does make the dream work. Dream big, stay together and we WILL achieve the gift of success which awaits!
"Unwrap" a wonderful week with students!

Excel with SEL!
Teachers,
Try one or all of these simple yet effect strategies to grow SEL in your classroom.
Incorporate Hands-on Crafts. If your students need a craft break or activity before a holiday, use that time to promote social and emotional skills. Example: Positive Self-Talk Flower Craft: Kids can add their own positive self-talk statements on the petals (with center of flower stating “My Positive Self-Talk”), color the craft, cut it out, and then keep it to help remind them how to use this helpful strategy. This is just one small example that can help to maximize your learning time by incorporating SEL into activities like crafts.
Encourage Positive Self-Talk. Self-talk is voice in our minds that reassures and encourages us. It also helps us control our emotions so we can deal with problems appropriately. Today, kids hear a lot of negative, so teaching positive self-talk explicitly is really important. Model this and encourage this every day.
Give Responsibilities. Giving kids responsibilities and jobs helps build their sense of self-worth and gives the message that we are all part of a larger community. It’s important that every student has some type of responsibility, whether it is a class librarian, water plants, or part of a “clean up crew”.
