Newsletter Week 5, Term 3
St Michael's Catholic School Rotorua, Thursday 25th August
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,
You will have noticed a hive of activity around the school over the past few weeks. Metalcraft is replacing the roof on the two main blocks and the small room off the back of Galilee is being refurbished for our Learning Support Coordinator. The weather has slowed down progress but we are hoping to have both jobs completed before the end of the term. We are also looking forward to the refurbishment of the hall kitchen and toilets, and our court area being turfed, hopefully before the end of the year. Thank you to Graeme Roil from the Hamilton Diocese for supporting these projects.
We have the Scholastic Book Fair at school next week (29th August- 2nd September) to help promote reading and the love of books.
Children are able to purchase books from the library before and after school. For every book sold, the school receives a percentage of the total cost. On Friday the children are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. There will be prizes for the best dressed senior and junior, let your imagination run wild! The PTA have organised a disco for the children on Friday night to finish off our Book Week.
We are currently developing our Localised Curriculum and would like to gather your thoughts. Today your child will bring home a postcard with a question for you to ponder and give feedback.
"What skills, values and knowledge are important for our children to have, to prepare them for the future?"
Please can I ask that you take some time to record your thoughts and send them back to school by Friday 2 September. There will be a pizza lunch for the class who brings back the most postcards. I would love to have all classes enjoy this treat!
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Ma te Atua koutou e manaaki,
Rachael McLanachan

Dental Health Care
The mobile dental caravan has arrived at school. Every child will be seen by the Dental Technicians over the following weeks.
Children with colds or flu-like symptoms are not permitted to attend school. Any children displaying these symptoms will be sent home. They must then get a COVID test and return a negative test before returning to school.
Please remember that if someone in your household has tested positive, your child needs to isolate with you. Please do not send your child to school if there is a close contact at home with Covid. We thank you for all doing your part to keep our school community safe.
