A Message from Mr. H.
Our annual Reading Incentive Program wrapped up before February vacation and it was a huge success! As a school, our Hawks read a grand total of 113,382 minutes!
Thanks to all of the parents/guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family members who had volunteered to be our “mystery readers” during the month. Thanks to our Parent Advisory Council and Reading Incentive planning committee for all the hard work of getting this beloved event off the ground. Events like these don’t happen without the wonderful support of our parent community. We couldn’t have done it without you!
- Mr. H.

Mr. Dennison's Music Notes
In our short month of February, music classes did a lot of hard work. Kindergarten classes had two chances to learn about and play the xylophone/glockenspiel. Each student played a line from the jazz standard Duke’s Place with Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. They also enjoyed Louie’s deep voice. First grade focused on high and low sounds, which is often confused with loud and soft. They tested their understanding with a Hi-Lo Freeze Game, and labeled animal sounds as high or low in the song Bought Me A Cat. Second grade concluded their work with the song Rocky Mountain, which included an instrument part, writing rhythms with popsicle sticks, and even singing as a round! We added a new rhythm this month - a musical “rest”.
Thanks for reading!
