SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Kind'.
To be 'inclusive' and welcoming to all our new Vogeltown learners is the 'Vogeltown Way'. We show 'inclusiveness' as part of our school vision of Manaaki Tangata - caring for the people.
Being a 'Vogeltowner' is being a good citizen of our community - someone who is inclusive, respectful, original, courageous and kind.
SCHOOL GOAL: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
WHAT: WELCOME BACK TO 2022 – To treat everyone the same, our VS family! Be INCLUSIVE!
WHY:
We are a welcoming school and we want all learners and whanau to feel safe and happy here
Being an ‘inclusive’ learner you show the school vision of ‘Caring of the people’ - Manāki tangata
Vogeltown is one big ‘whanau’ and we welcome & involve all people to our family – being ‘inclusive’
HOW:
By being a ‘Vogeltowner’ you show ‘inclusiveness’ by involving everyone - regardless of creed, race or gender.
By involving anyone in your group - whether it be a game, a class task, sitting together at lunch
By supporting other people and accepting everyone has differences - being collaborative
By being a positive Vogeltown citizen - keeping a positive attitude when working with others
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You can work collaboratively and positively with other people
You are welcoming and accept people into your game, group or task
You can support others - making sure everyone feels included in your group, class and school
You are a ‘Vogeltowner’ showing inclusiveness and Manāki tangata
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
Unfortunately this week we had Mr George, Miss Wohler and Mrs Stone away as they were isolating due to being household contacts. A big thanks to our relievers who came in and did a a fantastic job!
We welcomed back Mr Bishop this week after his leave after the birth of his third child - I know Rm 10 were happy to have Mr B back in front of them.
Next week we welcome back Miss Bleasdale after her whirlwind wedding and honeymoon. Miss Bleasdale will now be known as Mrs Sutton - this will take a while for all of us to get used to.
We are working hard to keep some normality going for our school and learners. It is hard to still not have any parents/caregivers on site. Hopefully soon this will all change and we can go back to a 'new normal' with our families back on site.
We are making sure each teacher is rostered on at the front gates in the mornings so we can have catch ups with whanau.
The positive (if you can see it as a positive) of not having too many start of the year trips and activities is that the classrooms are getting through a lot of learning! The rooms are super settled and it is so rewarding as a Principal to walk around the school and see the engagement from the kids and teachers in their learning! A massive thanks to our teaching staff for providing the excellent programmes for our tamariki! Ka mau to wehi!
This coming week we have our Syndicate tryathlons and the Paetoki swimming sports. We can't wait to have some traditional 'fun' events happening at school. A big thanks to Mrs Lash and Miss Fleming for organising the tryathlons and to Mr George for the 'new' swimming sports being held at our school for the first time ever!
Thanks for your support of our Teacher Only Day today. This is the only TOD we have scheduled for 2022.
Enjoy the long weekend whanau. Celebrate what it means to live in Taranaki on our anniversary on Monday. Get out to the parks, up the mountain, walk on a beach, bike the foreshore, throw a frisbee in the back yard and support local businesses for that much needed coffee.
HE WAKA EKE NOA - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER
Aroha nui, Mr O
COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
On Thursday we had our third confirmed positive case of a learner from Vogeltown School. A letter has been sent to everyone about this case and to respect the family, we kept it very generic.
As I mentioned last week, going forward, we will let the whole community know of any positive cases we get in the school. If we know the student was infectious at school, we will let the class that this learner came from know. This will be in the form of a letter through Seesaw from your classroom teacher and from our eTAP SMS system.
We are expecting more and more cases to crop up at Vogeltown and will continue to communicate with our families. Thanks to the families who are letting us know if they need to isolate or if they are keeping their child home. Please can we ask that you let the school office know as well as the classroom teacher - either by email, Skool Loop, text or call. Our school mobile number is 021 753 680.
