Fifth Grade Newsletter

May 1, 2016

Dear Parents:

Here's what's happening at school this week.

Art Show

Art Show is fast approaching. It is so exciting to see the building taken over with student art. Opening night is May 12th. If you would like to help with set up on the 10th or 11th, please give Mrs. Smith a call or email Thank you

NWEA Testing

The NWEA tests are scheduled for May 10 and 11. Students will be taking the reading and math portions of the test this spring.

We will continue reading Woods Runner this week and talking about how it relates to the Revolutionary War. Please send headphones or earbuds with your child on Tuesday and Wednesday again this week. We have to work silently because the 6th graders next door will be taking the M-Step test.

Social Studies

We are currently talking about the events that led to the Revolutionary War! It is fun analyzing the words of the songs from our play and how they fit into the history of our country!

Currently, students are working in a new "Go Math" book that we are piloting. Students are learning how to multiply fractions with whole numbers. This week, students will continue to work on this concept. They will also work on learning how to multiply fractions with other fractions.

We will continue to look at the Layers of the Atmosphere.

Students do Not have homework in Science this week (unless they do not finish class work due to not using class time wisely).

13 Colonies Musical

Please plan to have your child at the Middle/High School Commons by 6:45 on Tuesday, May 3. The show will begin at 7:00 in the auditorium and last about 45 minutes.

Boys should wear black or dark blue pants and white shirts- we have jackets and other costume pieces to put with them. Girls all have costumes at school, but they should wear a plain t-shirt or tank top and shorts or leggings for easy dressing.

If you are able, please send $1 to school with your child so we can show our appreciation to Mrs. Thompson with a bouquet of flowers.

The last day for after school tutoring will be Tuesday, May 3.
