Words of Inspiration
"So often you find that the students you're trying to INSPIRE are the ones that end up inspiring you."
- Sean Junkins
A Special Applause to...
PD on the Fly...
In this article, a college professor shares his initial failures as well as strategies on how to get it right. The first days of school are so important as we work to build relationships with our students. The author, James Lang, shares, "We teach human beings who are inspired by wonder, driven toward community, beset by fears and anxieties, and influenced in countless other ways by aspects of their lives beyond the purely cognitive." Think about how you can use these principles to spark curiosity, build community, get students doing cognitive work, and be clear about expectations. Enjoy!
Information for the Staff
MAP Testing
We will be MAP Testing this week. HERE is the bell schedule we will follow on Wednesday and Thursday.
Evaluation Meeting
SEA and the district recently signed a MOU to extend the deadline to hold an evaluation meeting. We will hold the Greene School Evaluation Meeting for certified staff on Monday, September 9 at 7:20 in the Media Center. As you have heard, we are a pilot district for the new OTES model. At this time there are many questions about the implementation of this model. Most of my questions fall around the High Quality Student Data that is referenced in multiple parts of this framework. I will be going to a training on September 11 to find out more. At this evaluation meeting you can expect to learn the evaluation cycle you are on, the forms that will be used for evaluation, and who will be evaluating you this year. When you review these forms I am sure you will have questions as well. Our plan is to use a chunk of the September 27 PD day to dig in deeper to the new model. I hope to have more answers by then.
First Friday
Mr. Meno will be sending additional details. Friday will a First Friday! All students need to return to their homeroom during Flex Time. Teams will lead the lessons. You can find all of the monthly lessons by clicking HERE. We will also be drawing First Class Passes on the announcements Friday morning. Please have your bins to the office on Friday morning.
Sycamore Bridges
We have a new organization that will be serving families in our district. This non profit will bridge needs in the community with people who can fill those needs. The area director, Lori Drasnin (also the PTO Treasurer and parent of a 6th grader, Ryan), will be coming to speak to us. I opted not to call a special meeting for her to talk to us about this. She will briefly talk on Friday at the Staff Breakfast about how we can support this organization.
Staff Member of the Month
Each month we do a drawing to select a Staff Member of the Month. Please help us recognize one of your colleagues by taking a minute to fill out the form by clicking below.
