Remote Learning Tips

Free Anythink Library Resources

In addition to our school's databases and tech tools that you are free to use on the library website (http://bit.ly/MRHS-LMC-links), Anythink Libraries are also offering free online learning and entertainment subscriptions here: https://bit.ly/3dNdnPa.

Since several of these require a library card number, anyone who doesn’t currently have an Anythink Library card can register for a temporary card number at this link: https://bit.ly/3bIYWtC. Temporary numbers can take up to 24 hours to process and are valid for 30 days (which may be extended). This is a great option for students to access free eBooks, audiobooks, etc through Anythink (more info: https://www.smore.com/g6an0) Please let me know if you have any questions!

A particular resource of note in that list: they just added a subscription to tutor.com, which offers one-on-one academic support across a wide range of subjects and levels, and is free to access with a library card number. The link is at the top of the Education block of resources.

Beyond connecting to online resources, Anythink would also love to be more actively involved in supporting remote learning. Please let me know what might be a good fit for your school. Ideas include:

  • curating a list of ebooks targeted for a particular project/assignment
  • recording webinars on a particular topic
  • doing a joint video chat with a teacher
  • hosting a virtual ‘field trip’ or library program as part of remote learning curriculum

Reach out to Jakob Seelig <jseelig@anythinklibraries.org> if you would like to work out details for specific ideas.

Screencastify Unlimited Access

The district now has Unlimited Access for Screencastify for free, and that includes unlimited recording lengths! Check out the district Screencastify page for more info on getting the code to get your unlimited account started. The video below will give a quick overview, and the photo below will show you all the ways you can save your video with your students (Drive, Classroom, YouTube, and more)! You can use a webcam (or not) and narrate your videos with ease, and the editor option gives even more features. Want more help? I'm happy to zoom with you and show you more!

Remove Assignments from the Google Classroom Stream

Why? Get your students to use the Classwork Tab for work so things don't get caught in the stream. Find out why it's helpful below and how to do it.

Online Help for Staff and Students

I've added info to the Link page on the MRHS Website. These are both "Featured Links" on the MRHS Links site. If you think of something students may need, please let me know, and I'll add it to the student page.

My Office Hours

Staff is free to email me anytime, and I'm happy to chat over the phone or do a video chat, too.

For students, I've posted this on the library website:
  • Online Office Hours for Mrs. LaRue: 9:00-10:00 am and 2:00-3:00 pm, Monday-Friday
  • You can also e-mail patricia.larue@adams12.org if you need help with your password, using any of our online resources, or if you'd like to set up a video call for one-on-one help. Get quick tech help here.
