Professional Learning Online with Carol Krueger
The Dudley Foundation presents, "Conversations with Carol". Far too often students are musically illiterate when they enter the rehearsal setting and directors aren’t sure how to develop elementary skills in younger and older singers. Working from the premise that students learn musical skills in the same order as they do language skills, participants will explore how we ‘learn’ music through hearing and imitating patterns before reading (translating notation into sound) and writing (translating sound into notation).
SCENIC Superhero Art Contest for MS/HS Art
The Southeastern Nanotechnology Infrastructure Corridor (SENIC) is sponsoring an art competition that challenges area middle and high school students to create drawings/cartoons that depict our local heroes as Nanotechnology Superheroes.
In our current situation, there are many people serving our communities in extraordinary ways. Healthcare professionals, caretakers, grocery store workers, delivery people, and many others are helping to protect and support us.
See the attachment below and share with your students!
Deadline for entries is May 15, 2020

Resources and More for Music Educator Members of NAfME
NAfME public policy staff for “Music Ed Policy During a Global Pandemic,” a free webinar on Tuesday, April 28 at 4:00 PM EDT. We will discuss possible long-term effects of COVID-19 on music education, including:
· Projected state budget shortfalls and implications for music educators
· The ‘Homework Gap’ – the lack of home internet experienced by millions of students
· What advocacy looks like moving forward – and how you can get involved
We are also aware that the economic conditions caused by the COVID-19 crisis will mean state education budgets will need to be supplemented by the federal government. NAfME is joining the Committee for Education Funding (CEF) April 20-24 to encourage members to participate in a week of action to support school funding. Visit the #HearOurEdStories campaign site for more information. (And be sure to tag @NAfME in your post!)
Also this month, many of us are celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month, following Music In Our Homes Month, and getting ready for the music-focused Worldwide Day of Gratitude on April 30.
Meanwhile, we are facing the tremendous challenge of teaching music from home, away from our students. Recognizing the issues that COVID-19 has created for our profession, in addition to the daily struggles we all face in our personal lives, NAfME is making every effort to provide timely distance learning and professional development resources for our members.
Please visit nafme.org and click on the “For Teachers” tab to take advantage of these opportunities for personal professional development and to learn from your peers in a virtual environment, including:
· Free Professional Learning Community Webinars
These brand-new webinars include quizzes for professional development recognition. New webinars are added weekly. Thousands of members have participated in the live events since mid-March, and all are available for viewing at your convenience.
