WHS/SMS Newsletter
Welcome Back to School!
September 8 - First Day of School
Registration
Our registration will go live at 12 am on Wednesday, August 19.
Registration: To help ensure the health and safety of all our students and staff, we are continuing with our online registration. It is a new and improved registration process that can be found here: ecollect.accelaschool.com/wpsd
Fees: We ask that parents please consider paying for their student’s registration fees online through MySchoolBucks. This will help minimize the amount of cash and checks that need to be handled throughout the day, which allows us to focus on keeping your student safe. You can pay with credit card or e-check. Don’t have an account yet? Visit MySchoolBucks.com to sign up today! If you are unable to pay for registration fees at this time, please contact Megan Powell at the high school office ((907) 874-3395) to set up a payment plan.
Support: With Covid-19 we are not offering a large, onsite registration kickoff as we normally do. However, the site secretaries are in their offices and available to assist via phone, video conference, or as a last resort, in person. Each office will be equipped with a laptop and will be sanitized between each visitor. We do ask that you please come in with a mask and utilize the hand sanitizer.
Forms: You will also be receiving an email from one of the secretaries with a migrant application and a Free & Reduced Lunch application. We ask that you complete these digitally if you are able to and electronically sign them. They will automatically be sent back to the secretary after you finish it. It is very important we receive both of these back from everyone as they help us with funding.
SMS/WHS Courses
To make the transition between online and in-class instruction smoother, many of our courses will be using the Alaska Statewide Virtual School (AKSVS) curriculum. These courses are designed to be taught either in class or online. A number of teachers are planning to substitute AKSVS courses for Wrangell classes with similar content. The AKSVS courses are easily customizable, and each will be taught by a Wrangell teacher.
In addition, AKSVS allows us to offer a greater selection of elective courses than we have been able to offer in the past. Below is a listing of available courses.
We ask that all students review their assigned schedule on PowerSchool. If a student would like to change their schedule, the parent and student will need to set up a virtual meeting with Mr. Davis, Ms. Neyman and Ms. Esco. Scheduling availability can be found here: x.ai
