Swim With Our School…The Silver Springs PTA
Thank you to everyone who has joined our PTA these past few weeks. The SS Springs PTA benefits all our students, teachers, and school. There is no obligation to join…just show your support by joining.
Your child will receive an ocean themed pencil when you join the PTA. Look for your fish in the Silver Springs display case.
Help your child’s class empty their bucket of pencils when you join the SS PTA. The TOP classes will be rewarded. Sepich is in the lead for lower EL and Labadie for upper EL. Help your child’s class and support the SS PTA with your membership.
Thank you for swimming into the school year with us…the SS PTA!

Get Caught In This…Invest In Your Child
Thank you for all the generous donations from our Silver Springs families. An extra thanks to the families that gave extra. All the donations are important and greatly appreciated.
Just to give you an idea of how much money is needed:
$50 from 4 families = 1 classroom teacher $200 for classroom supplies
$50 from 40 families = Time For Kids subscription for the year (approximately)
$50 from 7 families = Reflections (PTA Art Contest) at Silver Springs
$50 from 14 families = average cost of an assembly
The PTA benefits your child and school!
We truly need all our Silver Springs families to give what they can to help ensure the SS PTA can support and fund all we do for our students, teacher, and school. Your donation is tax deductible. All the money donated stays at Silver Springs. You don’t have to be a PTA member to help this important fundraising campaign. This is a fuss free way to raise money for our PTA. Look for the GOLDFISH option of IIYC for this year instead of the regular Invest In Your Child.
You are helping to make a difference at Silver Springs. We want to help make educational and rewarding experiences and lasting memories at Silver Springs for all the students.
The first raffle winners will be announced this week…

Get INSPIRED…it’s time again for PTA Reflections…
Encourage your child to unleash their inner artist through the National PTA’s Reflections Art Program! For 50 years, the National PTA has helped students explore the arts. The theme for 2018-2019 “Heroes Around Me” will spark imagination and creativity in school and at home. The theme MUST be reflected in the artwork.
Have your child get creative with an original work of art. Students may enter as many entries as they’d like, in one or more of the following categories:
· Dance Choreography
· Film Production
· Literature
· Music Composition
· Photography
· Visual Arts
Deadlines and more information will be given soon.
Contact Lindsay Laiacono at lalynbailey@yahoo.com with any questions.

Jump over the MOON with Robotics!
In order to foster an early interest in science and engineering, Silver Springs will start their first Robotic team!
We will start with FIRST LEGO League Jr for Grade K-3. This robotic league is a non-competitive robotic program designed for young kids between 6-10.
These teams will use LEGO bricks to build a rocket and will use the Lego WEDO 2.0 kit to solve the Challenge. The robot is programmed with a drag and drop app on a phone, tablet, or laptop. Don't worry -- it's an easy app interface designed for young students. There are no programming skills required. The 2018 theme for the robotic challenge is MISSION MOON. So let's start our Moon Mission with a new Silver Springs Robotic team!!

Silver Springs Recycling-Pizza Boxes
We are looking for volunteers to take the pizza boxes from Silver Springs to the Novi Recycling Center. Pizza is offered for lunch on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Fridays. The boxes are gathered and put into the PTA room (off the gym). After about two weeks they need to be taken to the recycling center at 26300 Lee BeGole Dr, Novi, MI 48375 (just off 11 mile near Novi Town Center). Boxes can be dumped into any of the dumpsters there (no plastic bags though).
If you are able to help please sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0c48a8aa2fab9-silver1 ! Boxes can be collected from the school any time it is open and then taken to the recycling center at your convenience. It doesn't have to be the specific day on the sign up.
Thanks for your help!

Supporting the The 7 Habits at home!
Habit 1 – Be Proactive – “I’m in Charge of Me”
What this means: Take charge of your own life. Make it happen. Don't wait for someone else to do it.
“I am responsible for me.”
“I do the right thing before I am asked.”
“I do the right thing even when no one is looking.”
“I do not blame others for my actions.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. If you do something wrong, say you are sorry before someone asks you to apologize.
2. When you get mad and want to say something, stop, think, and ask yourself-
Why am I getting so angry? Make a good choice in a good way.
Great Books for Habit #1- Be Proactive
- The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds
- Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
- Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
- The Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper
- Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman
- Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun by Maria Dismondy
