The Manning Weekly Newsletter
December 11, 2020
Manning Community,
We have lots going on as we finish this semester and gear up for our new schedule next semester. Of course, we are teaching synchronously 4 days/week during remote learning, but when we are given the green light to come back to a hybrid model, we are moving from the two days of synchronous instruction we ran in our hybrid model 1st semester to 4 days of synchronous instruction during the 2nd semester. Once we are back in a hybrid model, students will still be attending school only two days/week, but on the other two days, they will be zooming into their classrooms! Friday's will stay asynchronous.
We heard from our community that being 4 days synchronous would be helpful, and we are finishing building our classrooms with the technology needed to do so during winter break. This includes webcams, an extra monitor, snowball microphones, and docking stations! We are a bit nervous, but mostly excited about this change in instruction, as we will most likely be trying all sorts of new things (and maybe failing at a few things) as we teach our classes with 1/2 the class in person and 1/2 the class Zooming in. This is innovation though, and that's what we do at Manning. We continually get better at what we do so we can meet the needs of our students and community!
A few things to note as we head into the weekend and next week:
1.) Family-School Partnership Survey- If you have a minute between now and 12/18, I would ask that you fill out this survey, as it will give us excellent data on what we are doing well and what we can improve! Here is the link to the survey: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/5968764/FSP-2020-21
2.) Parent Partnership will be meeting this Tuesday evening @ 5:00 p.m. All are welcome. The Parent Partnership meeting this month will be conducted much like a Town Hall meeting. Please attend as our only agenda item for this meeting will be hearing feedback on how remote learning is going for your child/children. I would like as much feedback as possible so we can make adjustments and improve the experience for our students. The link for this meeting is below in our "Upcoming Dates" section of the newsletter.
3.) We sent an email regarding Ms. Hosier's schedule earlier in the week. I've included updated information below as there was a mistake in the previous schedule. Please see below for an updated schedule and message from Ms. Yocum:
We apologize but there was an error about the offering of Ms. Hosier's orchestra classes on the email originally sent to families on 12/9 regarding the Performing Arts scheduling change, thank you to the parents who contacted me regarding this discrepancy. To clear up the confusion:
Advanced Orchestra - Period 5 1:00-1:55
Orchestra - Period 6 2:00-2:55
Self Directed Orchestra/Advanced Orchestra Mixed - Period 7 3:00-3:45
We again apologize for the confusion and understand that this causes frustration.
Additionally, we are listening to the community and have heard you and have made an adjustment to our schedule regarding band/orchestra. We will no longer be offering the Improv class, and instead due to the pandemic focus on what classes we have and offer a combined class of band/orchestra 7th hour for those of you who could bring in your students to begin class second hour and then students would not need to be picked up early but rather go home at regular scheduled time for their 7th hour. This class will be mostly self directed with an asynchronous model, If you need to discuss this Mixed Orchestra option for P7, please reach out to myslef.
-Ms. Danelle Yocum
danelle.yocum@jeffco.k12.co.us
4.) We have cancelled the PTA meeting for next week. If you have any questions or would like to be part of PTA, please visit our homepage and under the tab, "Family Resources", you can find all sorts of good information about our PTA. Whether its through donating time, money, or services, our PTA appreciates your support! Remember, all PTA donations go directly to our school to benefit your students. For example, PTA is helping to fund the tech that we need to ensure a 4 day synchronous learning model next semester. Thanks PTA!
5.) When will we return to hybrid in person? I don't have any information at this moment, but I do know that that district leaders are meeting with our BoE on 12/16 and plan on communicating restart plans for the second semester to our community next Friday, 12/18.
6.) What will our schedule look like for the last week of the semester?
- Monday, 12/21- Synchronous learning (live lessons). We will follow our current remote period schedule.
- Tuesday, 12/22- Asynchronous learning on this day.
- The office will be completely remote these 2 days, so staff will only be available via email.
As always reach out if you have any kudos, questions, or concerns. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend filled with lots of family time!
Stronger Together,
Christian Ramaker

A Note if you have a performing arts kiddo... (updated information)
We have been receiving several questions around the Performing Arts classes, so we thought we might try and help clear things up.
Our performing arts teachers are both fully remote, making these classes 100% remote only, meaning the kiddos will need to be at home to take these classes. This may mean other portions of their day will also be remote if the class period they are in falls before or after their performing arts course. We know not everyone is fully remote, so we want to make sure families understand what is happening if you are taking these classes. They will need to come late or leave early. If you requested any performing arts classes, we have given your students the classes below.
If your student is taking any of the performing arts classes for semester 2, there will be some special circumstances for attendance for your student.
To accommodate the program and give your student the best opportunity to be in all their classes, we have made performing arts classes periods 1,2,5,6 & 7 (some performing arts classes will be extended into a special 7th period, from 3:00-3:45pm)
Ms. Mendez' Classes:
Vocal Ensemble - period 1 8:25-9:20
Choir & Advanced Choir- period 2 9:25-10:20
6th grade Musical Theater - period 5 1:00-1:55
7th grade Musical Theater - period 6 2:00-2:55
8th grade Musical Theater - period 7 3:00-3:45
Ms. Hosier's Classes:
Beginning Band - Period 1 8:25-9:20
Advanced Band - Period 2 9:25-10:20
This class will be mostly self directed with an asynchronous model, If you need to discuss this Mixed Orchestra option for P7, please reach out to Danelle Yocum.
We know that the performing arts classes are very important to the Manning Community, so we are trying everything we can to keep our program moving forward and give your student every chance to continue taking these courses.
What does this mean for my student?
- If my student has P1 vocal ensemble choir/beginning band, they will arrive after P1
- If my student has P2 choir/advanced choir/advanced band, they will have P1 remote, P2 choir/band, and arrive for P3
- If my student has 6th grade Musical Theater/ADVANCED Orchestra P5, they will leave after P4 and go home for this class P5 and their P6 class
- If my student has 7th grade Musical Theater/Orchestra P6, they will leave after P5 and go home for P6
- If my student has 8th grade Musical Theater/Mixed Orchestra P7, they will either be given P1 or P6 off, to accommodate their additional period added to the end of the day. If they have P1 off, they will arrive for P2. If they have P6 off, they will leave after P5.
- If my student has both a morning option AND and afternoon option, they will arrive late and leave early
We hope this clears this up for you! If you have any questions or concerns and need to speak to someone about their schedule specifically, please reach out to Danelle Yocum @ danelle.yocum@jeffco.k12.co.us

Mobile Mustang Information Corral
Hello, Mobile Mustang Parents and Guardians!
It is coming up on the last full week of the quarter and semester, meaning we teachers are getting a few emails of “How can I get my grade up?”. Usually we have to respond that it is very late in the quarter to be asking that question and going from a D or F to a B or A is just not going to happen. However, we really appreciate the kids trying to improve their learning and grades so we are willing to help when we can! Each teacher has slightly different late or redo assignment check in procedures (email, come to office hours, mark in Google Classroom, etc.) and Tutor Times offered throughout the week (by appointment or set drop in times. Please check your child’s Google Classroom and syllabus for procedures and expectations for getting help and boosting that grade!
Mobile Mustangs showing H.E.A.R.T.
Eryn Franklin really slowed down, asked for help, and it showed in class as she had an A on her test this week in Social Studies! She really showed Effort and Achievement!
Marley Burger has shown great persistence and patience as we have learned to work online and with her interpreters. She has Achieved at a high level throughout the semester when others would have been frustrated and given up when things went poorly or was difficult. Thank you for showing amazing Effort and Achievement and Teamwork, Marley!
Olivia Darrow overcame technical issues that her teacher had with an online test in S.S. and was willing to come back later in the day to make up a test that she could have easily ignored or blamed her teacher for. She really showed Effort, Achievement, and Respect!
Thank you for your continued support of your child and the Manning Mobile Mustangs!

SEL Corner....a place to fill up your bucket
Recently, I received a gift from a friend. Someday it’ll look great in my office, but for now let me paint you a word picture. There are several windows with a rollercoaster moving across them, describing the rollercoaster of emotions we have the chance to experience in life. Sometimes we’re happy, or sad, things can be terrifying (which can somehow make us feel alive), and then at times it’s just “ugh”. Ultimately, we are complex and wonderful creatures who can create, destroy, love, grieve, and connect. Her card applies to us all: “This is a reminder that even though things might feel difficulty right now, you are a magical human, capable of wonderful feats.”
Manning’s GSA will be back in January!!! What’s GSA? You may know it as the Gay, Straight Alliance, but now GSA is reworked to be more inclusive and expansive. GSA is the Gender and Sexuality Alliance. GSA’s can take various forms. From support, to advocacy, to a safe place to share experiences and form friendships. Interested? Your student can express that through this interest form. We will be a local chapter, click on the link to learn more about the national GSA Network.
At Manning, we strive to live our core values every day.
